Polo 1.4 match petrol manual. From new, the LH front suspension has made a hissing noise when going over bumps (eg. speed bumps). It sounds like air escaping. Does it at all speeds. RH front suspension and rear suspension are quiet. The LH damper was replaced at 7K miles but still hisses. Hissing noise can't be heard when LH window closed, only when open. The big bush on the LH lower arm was also replaced. All tyres are fine. Is this a normal noise or not, can someone explain it please?

UPDATE. FYI. The damper/shock (LH) was changed because both an independent reputable mechanic and a VW dealer mechanic said it shouldn't make a hissing noise. The new shock was fitted by a vw dealer under warranty, but it was just the same as the old one! (yes, I'm quite certain they changed it).

One could say that if the shock was changed and it made no difference, then the hissing noise is caused by something else, like aerodynamics or design of the bodywork etc on the left side, but in that case all match 1.4 cars would make the same noise.

Or one could say that if the LH shock is fine, then perhaps its the (quiet) RH shock that should have been replaced instead of the LH, then they would both make a hissing noise, which is perhaps how it should be?
