Off center steering wheel in 6N2 - anyone else?

Featured Replies

Hello,

My steering wheel look off centre compared to the dials and the arch at the top of the dash. Hopefully you can see in the pictures what I mean.

Does anyone else have the same problem?

I asked my mechanic friend about it and he thought it was strange but nothing looked out of place.

Thanks

It's funny you ask this, mine is the same. I figured I put something back on wrong when I took the dashboard off but there is no adjustment in any of the mountings.

I think it's normal.

Does your gear stick seem too far forward? Ie it looks like your in 3rd gear when in neutral

I think my centre console is too far back but perhaps it's vws fault... And not mine :)

Hi, Thanks for the reply - I'm glad its not just my steering wheel which is off!

I haven't noticed the gear stick looking too far forward but will look tonight on my way home.

Mine was the same and my bros so think it might be how it is

Matt01 - Thanks for the reply - I will stop worrying about it now!

Dixy - I checked my gear stick location and it looks like its in the right place in natural. Does your hand break look like its in the right position - I imagine it wouldn't fit right if the centre console was to far back.

This seems to be a common thing with cars of this size.

Learner drivers often comment on the steering wheel not being central to the seat/clocks.

No one seems to notice once we've had a few hours in the car unless we change from a large car back to small or (as you've been doing) unbolt bits!

I think that's just how it is, mine is like that aswell

Probably something to do with them being designed for LHD in the first place.

My 6n2 is LHD (I live in israel) and the wheel is off centre too :)

For people with off centre steering wheels, you need to get a proper 4 wheel alignment carried out,and then after any adjustments that are made you then need to take the steering wheel off and reposition correctly worn suspension parts ie track rod ends can cause this the alignment will show these up.hth.
