Hi everyone.

I have had an idle problem with my Polo. Runs fine cold but cuts out when warm. I have taken her to a garage and I need a new Carb or Manual override kit to fix the problem. Can anyone please help me find the Carb I need or an override kit.

Most people give up and switch to a Weber.

You could perhaps take the automatic choke mechanism off this Pierburg 2e3.

(since it is for 1800 CVH Ford Sierra the carb itself has venturis and jets that are too big for your 1.3).

(or the same seller appears to also have a Pierburg 2e3 with manual choke conversion, but carb is again too big)

Did the people who diagnosed this as the problem explain that the choke flap was not opening, and have you seen this yourself with air filter cover removed when engine hot?

If not, the fault might be something else.

Choke flap does open, I have seen this myself and that's when it cuts out.

Would you be kind enough to point me in the right direction of a good replacement weber carb also. I wouldn't describe myself as an expert yet!

Hey dude,

I had major issues with my 1.0L a while back. Came with a Pierburg so I managed to source a Weber from German eBay. Not sure which Weber you need for the 1.3 but eBay.de is a good place to look.

Ideally Weber 30DMTR with 22/22 venturis (rare)

Or Weber 32/34DMTL.with 24/25 venturis.

If it is cutting out with choke flap open then it's not the choke which has no effect once flap is open,

It's a mixture that is too weak, probably due to a vacuum leak at the rubber base mount or idle/pilot jet blockage.

Or, less likely, too rich due to high fuel level in well because of needle valve leakage. When fast idling while engine cold it will use the extra fuel, then flood once up to operating temp.

Thanks for all your help, I took the carb off, cleaning it and put it back on and it WORKED! I have adjusted the idle a little as it was running very fast, my baby is now back on he road!
