My 1989 1.3 polo Breadvan odometer has just stopped working, rest of dash works fine. Not even sure where to start!

Does the speedo still work? The speedo and odometer are just driven by a cable so if they cable is fine and the speedo works then it is probably something to do with the gears inside the unit itself.

Yeah speedo works fine just the odometer has stopped

This has happened with a previous speedo cluster I have had. I think a specialist is needed to repair it unless you feel confident to tackle it yourself but the problem suggests that you may need parts to get it working again. They come up on Ebay from time to time.

I've fixed a few of these. There's a gear that slips on the driving shaft of the odometer on motometer clocks and I've seen a similar fault on vdo clocks too. Pull the speedo and remove the plastic surround to reveal all. Surprisingly simple little mechanisms inside.

Started working again, wow and then just stopped again! Did 30 miles this morning and it recorded 25 haha.
