I could eek this up to 45-50MPG fairly confidently if I had the patience and foresight, it'll never be as eco as a diesel, or even a modern petrol for that matter, but the simplicity and enjoyment from it far outweighs the MPG factor for me.

i can bet it wont drink as much as my current 1.0 engine. This drinks more than my golf mk2 1.8 16v when it was alive. with the 1.0 i have to really push it to its limits ragging it to keep up with others its proper gutless

A 1.0 will always be worse on fuel consumption as it's working harder to pull the same bodyshell weight around

I used to be able to get incredible mileage out of my 6n 16v Polos. Did over 500 miles on 1 tank once. From the Polo Show to Aberdeen without a fuel stop!

lol 500 miles on a full tank. i never did that when mine was standard. most i ever got was 320 miles. average journey 30-35 miles.

this was eco driving style.

the difference of mileage people get on valvers is laughable. something was up when they were rolling these out of the factory line.

well the engine swap was done 4 days ago. took it for a test drive yesterday and then Boom. my gearbox is gone. Really pissed off at the mo and cant be dealing with wasting more money on this polo. I'm not going to scrap it. I'm going to sell the complete afh engine and other bits and bobs to fund for a cheap 1.0 engine soon. once i stripped my mk4 golf turbo for money I'm getting a clio 172 sport as prices have gone down alot in those and there quite nippy.

Sucks aint the word. :( if i got a recon box that will be 400 and then respray id be in over 1600 with what it owes me. Really pissed off

This really needs updating badly .

Hopefully if my plans work out i should be collecting a fresh recon gearbox from Volkswagenspares.com Thursday . will upload pictures once its all done . This thing is costing an arm an a leg at the mo.

Time for an update. I kinda fell outa love with this thing and nearly scrapped it too. after the conversion the gearbox went and i had to splash out £400 on a recon . its already becoming a money pit. But one thing with me is too never give up on what your doing and just carry on till its finished. Picked it up today here's some pictures

dvla updated my v5 too

The conversion is not just the engine and gearbox. i have the valver complete front break set up, front suspension and anti roll bar, power steering too and using the afh clocks too. Its still a work in progress but its driveable. what do to next is get my valver front bumper painted middle of april, fit my 16v grill badges and rear badges, fit my valver front seats, wire my electric windows ( when i get hold of some 3 door regulators) . will be updating this when more work is carried out as my mk4 gti turbo is now stripped.

I'm glad you transferred over all the suspension and stopping parts too! makes it a proper job and responsible too, see too many engine swaps where they drop in a silly engine on poverty spec suspension and brakes!

Thanks. It made sense to do all of it as i had a doner car and mine was a poverty spec 1.0 small brakes, no front anti roll bar etc. next plans are to get the interior sorted. Solitude crew repping

my day off work today and the weather is warm and sunny, soo i decided to give her a wash , was covered in dust, mud and had grease marks all over the front wings.

Now on to the interior. I had a go at converting my doner front seats to tilt and recline basically i stripped my original 3 door front seats and removed the back part of the seat. stripped the tilt and reclining part off the material and foam and swapped over the valver material and foam bloaster over to the 3 door back frame

valver seat foam and deeper seat bloaster than the original. swapped that over to the 3 door frame.

then attached the 3 door frame to the 4door base . saves swapping them over . looks perfect and took me over 2 hours to do in passanger seat. have to do the drivers seats on my next day off.

need to do the drivers seat when I'm off next week. soo tempted to dye the carpets black with some heavy duty dye off ebay. Think it would suit it.

Quick question to anyone who has a valver. Is it normal for these engines to be loud and exhaust popping. Aint gona lie it does sound sweet. like I've got an a sport exhaust but i haven't .

mines a stock exhaust and isnt loud or poppy

dunno wtf is up with mine then . I'm using stock exhaust too from the doner car and its loud like burble then pops. lol . brings the inner chav in me

I can't remember my AFH Polos being loud when they were standard. They made a good noise but certainly weren't loud.

4-2-1, de-cat on a single box system was loud though!

thats my future plans soon tidy up the bay
