Featured Replies

So iv seen some of you on here referring to what i think is a MK2F as a MK3 ..... I'm confused as i thought the MK3 was a polo 6N !!

Am i being thick or missing something here... so for example i have a 1992 Polo GT !!! Is this a MK2f or a MK3 ???

"Why don't you put the Golf GTI engine into it?" is a personal favourite of mine.

VW...Chassis..Club Polo
Mk1/f.. 86....Mk1
mk2.... 86c.. Mk2
Mk2f... 86c.. Mk3
Mk3.... 6n... Mk4
Mk3f... 6n2.. Mk5
Mk4.... 9n... Mk6
Mk4f... 9n3.. Mk7
Mk5.... 6R... Mk8

Within the Polo 'scene' mk2f and mk3 are the same thing. You'll notice from the mk4 or 6n onwards the chassis code is often quoted more than the mk.

It's very much one of those things that varies according to who you talk to.

I've always called the facelift a mk3. But that's at odds with the facelift mk1 not being called a Mk2, or the 1984> Mk2 still being a Mk2 despite all the reengineering of the design. It's a bit screwy as a 1983 Mk2 has a lot more in common with a mk1 than a mk2f. So was the mk1 facelifted twice?

As a club we say mk2f, just because it ties in with Wikipedia calling a 6n a mk3.

Very much one of those discussions where there's no right answer.

Some people even try and tell you it is a Golf.....

I had mine referred to as a Vauxhall Nova once :-(

My perception of this was always really weird. I considered my Polo to be a Mk4 (6n) but I always said Mk2F. Apparently to me a Mk3 doesn't exist.

It's nice and simple once you understand the system though mate.
