Feeling a bit bent over by Adrian Flux

Featured Replies

Just rang them to swap cover over on to new car :ninja: :ninja: :ninja: and they slammed me with a £200 pound bill!

when asked why, they told me there was the car change fee £25, an increase in "Insurance Tax" from 6% to 9.5% and because this was a "New to me" car I lost all ownership discount. I asked if I still had club discount and they said I had, but what gets me the most is I have one payment left on this years policy then its paid off! so I'm paying a quarter of this years premiums for 2.5 months driving, ON top of the normal premium.

I know it's the cost of motoring, but I don't feel its justified at all :(

That sounds dreadful. However, they are brokers and not an insurance company, so that may explain some of the charges.

What do they mean 'ownership discount' that is a new one on me.

Anyway this has been happening for years, once you are signed up to a policy they have you bent over a barrel, then if you try and change anything or even leave they can pretty much name their price as you signed up to a years contract. Depending on your age and NCB I'd be tempted to leave if it was almost paid off. It might work out cheaper if you can get a better quote elsewhere. Sometimes even a new policy from the same company can work out cheaper in the long run.

Finally try your best to get out of admin fees, I don't see how 3 minutes of typing and pressing enter or sending a email is worth £25+. Especially if they already have a good few hundred quid of your hard earned.

I try to go direct where I can. I'm not sure I get the best value for money but I get less hassle.

I went with them because they seem like the go to for modified cars and they give me a decent price, infact the others on this forum didn't respond from what I can remember. 3 years no claims and 27 at the end of this month, I'll have paid nearly £1500 this year!

They're utter theiving, lying, scum who'll do anything to charge you more money after you've takn the policy out.

I had a whole heap of adventures with them calling me a liar and telling me I hadn't sent my NCB in a couple of years ago, they only changed their minds when I asked if they wanted me to go to the ombudsman or if I'd prefer it if I just came to see them.

Although the classic is the first time I had insurance with them. They tried to invalidate it "because the vehicle is modified", sounds legit enough until you bear in mind it was a kit car, on a Q-plate, on a kit car policy. Of course it's modifed, it used to be a Cortina and a Peugoet 504!

Hi,

I'm sorry that you are unhappy with the charges applied for changing over to a new vehicle. Generally ownership is a massive factor when it comes to car insurance I'm afraid especially on vehicles that have been owned for under 6 months. New purchases are even worse. If you did want to PM me your details I would be happy to take another look at it just to make sure.

Regards,

Dan.
