Quick gearbox question! 6n2 ETD

Featured Replies

Hi!

Had a Quick question! I am currently having problems with my car, gearbox is making noises and
is in need of a replacement, been looking far and wide for a replacement and have found two good boxes.

Problem is I'm unsure wheter they will fit my car.

I have a 2001 polo 1,4 16v (75hp) Motor: AUA Gearbox: ETD
Heard that boxes for theese cars can be interchangable even if the codes don't match up!

So: I found a GTI gearbox ETG, newly refurbished.
And a DKF gearbox for the same Money.

Which one will fit my car?

Sorry for bad English

Either of them will fit without any problem, the DKF has the exact same internal ratios as the ETD so would be the better one to have

Thank you for very Quick response! Was just wondering wheter the Gti box is waaaay of considering the ratios?

Seems like a tempting buy as it is newly refurbished? How will it affect driveability?
Hope you've got the answer because I'm Clueless :D

ETD/DKF final drive 3.875 1st 3.455, 2nd 1.955, 3rd 1.250, 4th 0.933, 5th 0.740

ETG final drive 3.600 1st 3.455, 2nd 2.118, 3rd 1.440, 4th 1.088, 5th 0.892

So your 1.4 might be struggling to pull the higher gears??

Thank you very much! Just saw that the ETG gearbox usually goes together with a 1,6 16v. Seeing as the car is already struggling during acceleration

with the current gearbox I would have to agree, DKF is the way to go :) Will have to give the seller a call tomorrow, thank you!

Hello,
At the beginning I apologize for the my bad English 😪
I have POLO MK3 GTi 1.6, 6N2, AVY , 125 hp , 2001 year.
A few days ago the gearbox broke and now my question is related to it.
I know that the original gearboxis is from the 085 series with FFW code and besides it I can use 085 ETG or 085 ETD, but gearboxes from this modification  are not available on our market in Bulgaria.
From your posts, I learned that many of the 085 series boxes can be used ... if we ignore the transmission ratio. I know that they are important for the dynamics of the car, but at the moment I am looking for gearboxes analogous to FFW, which can be mounted directly on the 1.6 6N2  AVY engine.
So I "pulled out" those codes that I think are appropriate from the VAG 085 series - CKE, CLJ, CWS, CWV, CZG, DDJ, CWX, DCC, DCG, DKE, DSP, DTX, DXE, ETD, DQW CWU FFR ERD ETB
My question is can these modifications be mounted directly on a 1.6 6n2 AVY 125 hp engine?
If so, I will have more choice and will take the one with the best gear ratio
THANK YOU

I'd expect any 085 cable change gearbox to fit the engine block and starter,

BUT

you need to measure the inner driveshaft flanges.

ETD was used on 75bhp Lupo with 90mm diameter flanges.

Are they 100mm on FFW like high power cars, or 90mm?

If you have not already, have a look at this https://www.clubpolo.co.uk/topic/317419-085-gearbox-code-identification/  about half way down I have posted 2 PDF's with all the 085 ratios and it includes the clutch & driveshaft diameters, as for fitment any 085 cable operated gearbox will fit onto your 1.6AVY so that means any gearbox newer than around 1997/98 but ideally you would want one that is specified for the 200mm clutch
