New scuttle cover

Featured Replies

Don't laugh but I have been thinking of a solution to the disintegrating scuttle cover problem of Mk2s and maybe others. I thought some form of material may be the answer so I bought some blue canvas like material off Ebay and today shaped it to suit the whole length of the scuttle. One edge is tucked into the rubber and glued with contact adhesive and slits have been cut and reinforced to go around the bonnet hinges. On the windscreen side of the scuttle I have some u shaped rubber on order and will be glued the entire length of the scuttle. The ends of the cover simply lie over the wings and look quite neat. For the windscreen washer pipes I am making holes and using snap together eyelits that are used for emergencies on tents so the pipes can pass through the scuttle cover. To drain water from the top of the scuttle I will be using another plastic eyelit with a pipe somehow attached to it to drain water away so it does not collect in the scuttle. So to get to anything that needs maintenance in the scuttle the main rubber pops off and the scuttle cover is laid to the windscreen side so the fuse box, battery, heater fan etc. can be accessed. For those that think there will not be enough space for air to get into the heater fan, I think there will be enough gaps around the cover and in the corner of the wings to not restrict air flow. So far I am really pleased with the result and is a lot better than the flimsy bit of original plastic.

Regards Phil
