Since we are sharing memories this is my old black 6n 16v I do miss it at times...but boost is more fun I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, nice to see someone tidying a car up first rather t

  • Picked up a bootlid in the correct colour without the third brake light and with a wiper arm, all wiring and boot struts, complete with no rust for £30 and guy threw on the front 16v grille badge t

Things have been slow lately, I've been busy with other things. mainly building a mancave!

The solitudes are painted and finally lacquered, but they look shit, don't know what I was thinking when I painted them the way I did and with the paint I used, but thats a life lesson I've learnt haha, sometimes I do without thinking!

got some Nankang Ditchfinders due to be delivered on monday, got a really good deal so couldn't say no, especially when the 14's are at their limit now!

not much else going on really :/

Nice car, nice rims I love black v dubs

unfortunately one of the rear passenger wheel bolts has snapped due to cross threading, so looks like I'm going to have to get greasy some time soon!

I think I might go for that spoiler. It doesn;t seem to stick out alot as I first thought.

Looks smart!

Slight drop is need now ;)

slight drop? i was about to ask it already looks abit lowered?

unless thier bigger wheels

  • Author

Damunk, Yeah the spoiler is nice, doesnt stand out too much! I've gone from 14 inch wheels to 15 inch wheels, its been on -40mm springs all along, Jonnyboi, I think it does need to go a bit further down I agree, but I also kinda like it as it is haha tough choice...

Slight drop to me is getting the arches level with the top of the tyre..:lol:

Lovely car mate, just had a read through the post here. Looking to get myself a 1.4 16v 6n soon enough, just need to find one that's been looked after!

Thanks buddy!

Done a few long journeys in it recently, motorway and cracking A-roads, absolutely loved every minute!

I know of a guy who will have a nice one up for sale soon, however he's opposite end of country to you haha!

So this could soon be achieving full project car status, looking likely that I'm inheriting my dads pink almera which I'm really glad about because family life is tiring trying too keep this one clean and I also plan to do things to it which involve it being out of service for a few days at a time, so I will officialy have a beater and this as a weekend/me toy

almera does have a few problems so will see how long it lasts haha

so bit of an update,
finally found a really really good set of valver rears! something I have been very anal about is the quality of the little black stripes that go across the lights, over time it can get rubbed off and fades a lot, I've found countless set advertised as "mint" but yet totally lacking the stripes. managed to get this set delivered for £30 which wasn't bad, as you can see it is just starting to go in the upper corners of the lights, but overall is very good!

I've also gone back to clear indicators up front because the contrast was too much IMO

After discovering that the car had an incorrect distributor cap fitted (it had a bosch cap on a marelli dizzy) I ordered a correct fitting cap and also found a used dizzy on ebay with fresh leads that was dirtnasty cheap (£12) so snapped that up.

In the pic you can see the #2 lead was very tired, the other leads were ok, but changed them all over anyway

IPkvzI9.jpg

fitted both in hopes of clearing up my resistance to revving up high (if you look at my dyno figures I steadily lose power upwards of 3k to a peak and sharp drop at 6k) while the feel has improved overall, I still have two main issues that need sorting.

one is the "cammy" idle when the engine is not up to 100% running temperature, the other is that resistance at high revs.

It's looking likely that the ignition timing is slightly out so will need to buy some equipment to check and ensure the timing is right, failing that then the only other reasonable cause that has similiar symptoms at high revs is a blocked or restrictive exhaust.

1 year of ownership today :)

I havent posted much lately but really havent done anything!

replaced the fuel filter in an effort to reso;ve the smell of fuel in the boot after longer drives, ended up nearly breaking the connector!

RSyip7n.jpg

the old filter pulled out the grey insert with it, ended up destroying the o-ring putting it back in, used a bit of red gasket to form a seal, still have a smell of fuel after a long run though :(

any how, looking forward to the dyno day next year, will be nice to see if I can make up the power that was missing this year, currently planning some different wheels, something 7" wide :)

have some pictures :D
