This thread is for the serial offenders and slow learners who have owned numerous polos. Post your polo history here along with some details on where the car is now

Polo 1 - Black coupe 1.3 spi

Polo 3 - Silver breadvan 1.3 mpi

This was bought without MOT whilst mine was having work done. Ended up running this for nearly a year and loved it almost as much as the black coup

This was sold for £830 to a young lad and was probably dubbed if their plans came together along with some performance work

Polo 4 - Blue GT coupe

This was rearended but ended up having a wrecked engine. Bought for £250 delivered

This was bought for £500 delivered

Wow, some big history there. I'll keep mine brief and with no photos I'm afraid Polo 1 - F reg red breadvan we had in the family from new. Both me and my sister learned to drive in it but I inherited

  • Cant see how that hg could have blown right away, looks like a text book instilation

    So....Number 14....

some bargains you have had there..the black gt you got for 500 has real good potential, I remember how perfect the interior was when I seen it!

  • Author

yeah, its cought in limbo at the moment. needs the sills welding then it can go for an mot. its too good to part out but not sure i can justify throwing money at it

If I didn't have the breadvan or if the breadvan was a reliable daily runner I would take it right off you for a little project...need to get rid of this blue motion if I can though and the plan is to find a tidy pre facelift mk2 to keep as a standard daily

Right this will be a long reply.....

1st Polo... was a 1.0 coupe bought for £375 back in 2007, did all the usual mods and put GT badges on it because at the time I thought it was quick. Eventually blew the engine up and managed to sell it on because it was actually a clean shell.

Only picture I can find of it.

post-11731-1198950608_thumb.jpg

2nd Polo... was a 1.4 16v 6n bought for £2k back in 2008...from a dealer. Was such a clean car. I washed it all the time and spent a ton of money on it. It got the usual coilovers, 14" castellets on Yokohama tyres. It was a really good car and got me right in 6ns. Some of the older members might remember it.

01072008434.jpg

It came to a sad end in early 2009...who remembers this.....

P1000243.jpg

3rd Polo... Which I had at the same time as the 6n was a mk2f coupe 1.0 which had been converted to a GT. Was a cracking little car. Didn't do much to it apart from put on a -80mm kit and put a straight pipe in the exhaust.

DSC_0202.jpg

Unfortunately this came to the same end as the 6n..at the same time.

P1000221.jpg

P1000225.jpg

The old thread is still on here somewhere....

4th Polo... Was another 1.0 coupe, bought with HG failure, the plan was to convert it to an AFH out of the black 6n but that never happened. Lack of time, money and knowledge at the time. No pictures....but I gave the shell to Andy (Polo6n1600i) who converted it to a GT and it is laying in someones drive in Dundee or Perth I believe.

5th Polo... was another 6n 16v as I still hadn't gotten over the black one. This one was basically the same but red. This one ended up as a donor car as it hated engines....the first one boiled over on the way to work, the second one snapped a timing belt and the third one wouldn't run.

DSC_0340.jpg

6th Polo...............was only a G40 wasn't it...... I think most of the regulars know the story behind this G40. I still have it. It is in my lockup stripped to a bare shell, being used as a panel donor as it is not worth anything else. I only have 1 picture of it 'on the road' outside my parents house.

DSC_0400.jpg

7th Polo... was a spares car I bought for peanuts. was a 6n 16v with a gearbox issue. Used it to tidy up the red 6n before it started blowing itself up. The rest I sold on and kept for later projects. It was stripped in a weekend and was sent to the scrappy not long after.

DSC_0393.jpg

8th Polo... yet another 6n 16v, but this time an openair in a cracking colour. Did all the same stuff but got a set of 15" castellets and it looked fantastic on them. This car got a fortune thrown at it. After which I got myself into a bit of financial trouble so it had to go. I've still got the wheels though. Sold it to a girl who crashed it twice, then stripped it for spares I think. She came on here briefly.

DSC_0021-1.jpg

9th Polo... was a little 999cc 6n I bought cheap off a mate. He was getting messed around with garages telling him the odd noise he was getting was this, that and the other thing getting stupid quotes to fix it. I offered him £300 and he took it. Still had MOT and tax. Figured out it just needed the front wheel bearings done. £50 later and a set of old coilovers she was sorted. Great little daily. Kept it till the MOT ran out, put a fresh ticket on her and got £700 for it.

DSC_0252.jpg

10th Polo... is this little beauty which everyone knows, obviously still got it and not likely to ever sell it.

DSC_2617_zpsg9icniw2.jpg

11th Polo... was this little LHD G40 I bought off Chris2911 on here. Bought purely as a donor car. All the bits are stored safely in my shed waiting for when I have the time to convert the number 12....

null_zps2170b24d.jpg

12th Polo... is this little workhorse which will be rewarded for its effort as soon as I get time with plenty of bodywork attention and a G40 conversion from above...

DSC_2243-3_zpsq0zuznpr.jpg

13th (and last) Polo was this little red donor car. Found out some history about it not long ago. Was converted to a GT at one point and had parts donated to it from a LHD car somewhere along the line. But I bought it crashed damaged and with a 1.3 AAV so it was just used for spares.

DSC_2145-2_zpsec12f331.jpg

That's all for now....always on the look out for number 14 and I'm sure I will buy lots more over the coming years.

I remember reading the crash with the mk2f 6n, wasnt there a bmw also? How did the insurance deal with that

Yeah I had an ugly bodykitted up E30 which I'd just got hold of. I got a payout for all 3 cars...but still ended up a good few grand out of pocket.

Wow, some big history there. I'll keep mine brief and with no photos I'm afraid

Polo 1 - F reg red breadvan we had in the family from new. Both me and my sister learned to drive in it but I inherited it purely by driving it more! Totally standard except for the Union jack I painted on the roof to hide the blooming paint.

Polo 2 - g reg breadvan. Bought for £200 Fitted a 1.3 MH, and lowered it. Had several other mods like body coloured bumpers too over time. Black carpets throughout. Owned for about 4 years before it was written off

Polo 3 - Monaco blue mk2 'derby'. Still an ongoing project with huge spec (see build thread). Haven't touched it for 2 years but set to work on it again early 2016

Polo 4 - bog standard 1.4 Tdi 9n bought from parents after the White bready was written off. Still owned now and on 152k miles.

Polo 5 - rotten grey g reg coupe s. Brought as a project but turned out to be rusty as fuck. Never on the road was stripped and scrapped. Still have many parts left

Polo 6 - White coupe owned for 6 months as a fun car for the summer. 1.4 carbed abd, lowered 40. Great fun to drive but I don't have room to store over the winter

1st: Polo 1.0: First car, was pretty expensive at the time as this was 10yrs ago, just lowered with a loud backbox to get car slags ha.

Picture001.jpg

2nd: Polo GT: First real modded car, was running 103bhp when sold.

3-4.jpg

3rd: Polo 1.0: After the GT i have owned other VW's like Golf GTi' etc so had a Polo as a second/third runaround car: Bought this for £65 with a blown headgasket.

DSCF0233.jpg

4th: Polo GT: £200 car to replace the above.

DSCF0251.jpg

5th: Coupe S: Parked next to my Mk2 Golf at the time as well. Won a Show n' Shine with the Polo.

DSCF0271.jpg

6th: Polo GT: Just another cheap GT sold it on within weeks iirc.

1-2.jpg

7th: Polo 1.3: Another £50 headgasket failure special.

picture3-4.jpg

This pic shows me a my friend halfway through the headgasket which surprisingly blew straight away:

picture2-7.jpg

8th+9th: 6N Polo 16v donar car and Mk2 Polo 1.0 beast. Still have this Mk2, quite a bid spec sheet on it with a modified AFH and things underneath like 256mm front discs and rear disc conversion, PPS subframe etc

080120127.jpg

I have not touched the Mk2 in a couple of years. Mostly work uses up alot of my time but also its currently just part of a fleet i have along with my Mk2 Golf GTi 16v, Corrado VR6 and Seat Ibiza 1.4, the latter two being the roadworthy ones ha.

JTS%20Polo_zpszg0xcupa.jpg

What is this one for?

Going to try and do a mini restoration on it. Apart from the front wings the shell looks pretty solid. Engine needs an overhaul which I'm more than capable of doing. Then just a tidy up should see it right.

Makes me feel better when reading this, I'm close to 4o and not really had enough polos

1st polo was a f plate coupe s in gunmetal grey

2nd polo was a mk2 bread an a plate after someone writ of my mk2 golf gti

3rd polo was another coupe s that I swapped my breadvan for with my brother

4th polo was an early coupe get loved it to bits, decked on golf steels

5th polo was a j plate g40

6th was a 6n glx owned for two weeks

7th was a saloon mk3 big of rubbish gave this away to my brother

8th was a 1.4 cl polo with mega low miles

9th was a 6n2 1.4 tdi which was super

10th was a super tidy 6n 16v that I had for 2 months but hated it

11th was a 6n2 1.4 8v sold it to my dad who still has it

12th was a y reg 6n estate polo tdi which I lost lots of money on

13th was a early 6n I bought for cheap and sold only 3 years later for more

14th we have a 6n2 match that my wife uses.

In between I have had a pug 205 I bought for £150 of my uncle and 3 lupus, one seat arosa and my current daily for 7 years is a high mileage VW sharan.

My first polo, 1.0 that I got off a mate because he owed me a bit of cash and had this for sale. This is pretty much how it came to me (excuse the small pics, they are all I have).

th2006_0202guyscar0006.jpg

th2006_0202guyscar0011.jpg

It ended up like this, lowered, power techs, smoothed bumpers, side exit, gt conversion and interior plus other stuff

dsc00242.jpg

That got sold and replaced with a mk2 golf, que a spree of other golf's and sciroccos.

Fast forward a couple of years and this bready appears on here being offered up free to collector.

09052010539.jpg

Which ended up with a fuel injected afh, another set of powertechs and hydraulic suspension 03062010664.jpg

Step up free polo number 2 (again offered up on here), the breadvan donated most of its good bits (engine, suspension).

IMG_6807.jpg

And looked like this (sneak preview of the next polo in the background).

071120101125.jpg

Next on the polo list was my current mk2 which has been an on off project for coming up to 4 years now. First it was an injected afh, that then got stroked to 1.6, it's running mk1 golf coilovers all round, pretty much everything on this car has now been played with. The engine has now been rebuilt into a low comp 1.6 afh/avy hybrid ready for an m45 eaton supercharger.

And how it currently sits in the back of my unit waiting for some spare time

20151014_181327_zpsu8qdeocq.jpg

I've had a few other polo's over this time but only to sell on so can't be arsed to sift through all my photobucket crap to find them.

Very nice black mk2 and exciting plans for the future..is there a thread for it that I have missed

Cheers, build thread is in the mk2 gallery. Probably won't be finished for a good while yet tho, currently got 6 other cars and pretty much all of them are taking priority over the mk2 for various reasons

Edited by Mclovin

probably the smallest hoard here, but still a serial offender!

here's the Mk2F I had at 16, plans were to get it shiny, lowered on minilights for when I got my licence, purchased for the grand sum of £20, IIRC it was the 1.3 Genesis it even had a rev counter!

pmsSLw3.jpg

MNL7aIu.jpg

fast forward a few years, I owned two civics before finally getting a licence, a 106, two clios, then Emma

fvWviNY.jpg

wxiKyxc.jpg

then after she met her end, got myself this valver!

@ R10tzor First reaction...You have some guts parking that mk2F how you did lol..was that a daily thing to have it on a cliffhanger? :shok: Those bricks at the drivers front wheel dont even look cemented?? haha

Oil change on that must have been easy

Oil change on that must have been easy

Imagine not pushing down enough and going In first by accident [emoji16]

Haha it was tricky but the car didnt move very often, which is why it was parked there and not on the kerbside, we did actually use it as a makeshit pit to work on things beleive it or not, it was great! I can remember trying to get the crank pully off a 90' 1.3 DX Civic, parked in exactly the same spot, we had a 1 metre long breaker bar, snapped too sockets and it wouldnt come off, so it was very stable!

  • 3 weeks later...

not on the same level as most of you.

first polo is a 1.0 6n in canyon red poverty spec bought for £300

image.jpg
gifs upload

cheap for a reason because the engine is f****d

second polo i bought on monday for £240 a 1.4 16v 6n my doner car for my red one

polo6.jpg
upload pic

polo 1 mk2 cant remember the reg but i'm sure it was gold! never left the drive untill some scrote bought it for £30, which he joy rided around the neighbourhood and crashed it down a footpath.

polo 2.... mk2 red breadvan 1043cc completely standard tho i think this is the one i butchered the parcel shelf and put 6x9's in the parcel shelf and 2 12" vibe subs in the boot with a 1 farad capacitor which subsequently shagged my alternator/regulator diode and drained the battery if unused for a couple of days polo1.jpg

polo 3 a mk2 red breadvan... 1043cc which i converted to a GT setup and had a brand spanking new custom exhaust from philJ (which was fantastic) then i flogged the lot for £350 as i needed a van and the car was playing up untill it got warm.

Photo0786.jpg

polo 4 mk 1.3gl bought already converted to 1.4 16v afh running bike carbs, used for 18 months on the road problem free then started playing up so i stripped the engine and its now a 1.6 AFH/AVY hyrbrid running aldon amethyst mappable ignition with subframe and GT beam braided hoses g40 brakes etc IMG_2095.jpg

polo 5...... since i've never owned a coupe i plan to get a mk2f coupe and fully restore it more than likely running a 1.6 hybrid on ITBs. this is all over approx 12 years of my life? lots of other cars/vans in the mix over the years in between, daily driver is a passat which i needed during the current polos sick period which i plan to run into the ground to justify buying another polo but its been two years of abuse and it just wont break (is on 170k too.... solid as a rock!... b@stard thing!)

Edited by daz_derby

Got two MK2 Coupe-S's and a MK2f Genesis breadvan on the drive at the moment.

When I did a paper round in the '80s someone had two broken Fiat 500s. I thought he was a weirdo. Oops..
