I have just joined club polo as i have a mk2 breadvan and just bought a 6N, which is why I'm writing this help request.

The dealer I bought it off lost the original key, got another cut but now the car doesnt start. Hellllpppp.

Does anyone have any idea? Possibly chip and immobiliser issue?

Can i buy a new immobiliser, keys etc and just swap over the old ones??

The 6N is a 3dr 1.4CL

There will be a chip in the original key which will match the car. Without this the car will only start for a second or 2 then turn off.

How can i get this sorted? The car wont move so cant take it to a garage

I have seen an immobiliser with key and ignition ring so if i buy that to replace mine will that cure it?

Mine is a 3dr but thats off a 5dr - is there a difference

Easiest way is to find someone breaking a 6n with the same engine and take the keys, ECU and whatever else you need to make the car run again.

Really shouldn't this be the dealers problem? Or did you buy it cheap because of this?

I paid £100 for the car, body is good just needs this issue and a good clean and I'm driving it

Has the new key actually been coded? They may have had a blade cut but not coded.

If so then there's mobile people that'll come to you and do it. I had a new key cut and coded for £70 for my 6n2

I was thinking of that too but i have found an ECU eith key and ignition ring for £40 and thought that may be worth a go. Could tape the ECU key to the steering column so the chip is in the car

Your choice but the issue you could have and I mean it would be unlikely BUT if someone broke into your car and rammed a screw driver in the ignition barrel they'll be able to start it as it'll read code from your taped up key

You'll also need the immob unit from under the dash, the ring that goes around the lock has nothing to do with the coding it's just a read coil

Checked with the guy i bought the kit off, its the ECU, key, ignition ring and immobiliser so i bought the kit

So do i just need keys and the immobiliser then?

As Nige says, that ring (the one that goes around the steering lock) is just a coil of wire - Or, by 'ignition ring', do you mean the ignition switch?

Obviously, the key needs to fit the switch barrel.

The ignition ring comes from the immobiliser and goes up the steering column and fits around the ignition lock. My key does fit the ignition and starts the car but the engine dies immediately - on internet it all points to key chip fault.

Just need to know if i need the immobiliser and key only or do i need the ignition ring and ecu? I'm not sure

Just an update to all, i had my key reprogrammed by North West Keys in Bootle in Liverpool. Had to take the immobiliser and key to them and put the immobiliser back on the car and turned the key, the car started 1st turn of the key.

Excellent service and highly recommend the professional service.

Just thought good service needs reporting and will hopefully help anyone else with these issues
