yes the service should require a fuel filter. I can only assume that the logical way to do things would be to service then MOT not the other way round so they must have changed the fuel filter and seen the leak. The dripping could have well been caused by their fault with changing the fuel filter although it looked like it was coming off the side of the pump when they sent me the video.

I work as a tech at main dealer, we would never tell you there's a leak if there wasn't but each garage/tech probably has different views

They probably have the AC on and some retard is mistaking the condensation dripping for fuel

As a technician do you get supervised or checked on when you complete work to keep everyone straight and inline or do you get a few bodge-jobbers here and there?

In all this I could be wrong and there could have been a leak that appeared in the 8 or so hours prior which i know is unlikely. But I cant say I can really trust a random individual, VW garage or backyard garage, everyone is different so there is no real way of knowing what kind of mechanic you will get

A final update regarding my service by the pish technician at my local dealership.

Me: Hi have you found this diesel leak yet?

Tech: turns out there is two fuel filters on your car..one at tank and one near the engine. The high up one near the tank is leaking buy we haven't one in stock but we will have one tomorrow.

Me: How didn't you know they are two fuel filters...what have you done with every other polo that has had a service? Just replaced one filter? And I'm guessing because this has just been discovered my fuel filter is as old as my car is??

Complete and utter dipshit he was. Feel like it's a chore to have it serviced for free if that is what I'm dealing with. I would rather pay and service myself had it not been good for the service stamps in the book.

Good news is I should not have to pay extra for all that bollocks being that it's part of a service to change the filter.

And another to add I found the workshop manual which clearly states the fuel filter position and an additional filter near the top of the tank which is fitted to mine and some other models

Surely the technicians have these workshop manuals at hand and can work this out if I have sat at home and searched it in 5 minutes

I would say it is unfair to blame the Techs themselves though. I think their training and experience would be lacking when it comes to anything outside a basic service.

There is a young guy in one of the lockups round from mine who is a Tech for a local garage. He is in the middle of doing up a Mk2 Golf Driver. I poked my head in one day to have a look and ended up staying for a couple hours giving him a hand. He was really struggling with things that weren't simple bolt off - bolt on jobs and when he came to a rusted/rounded bolt he would just give up. I was able to pass on a few tips and sort a few bits that he had really been struggling with. He told me he felt he had learned more in that couple of hours than he had in the past few years at work. Simply because all he does is services on cars under 5 or 6 years old.

I can relate to that as I know what it's like on the railway when I have been learning in a clean fresh environment where everything is lubricated and working proper then out in the real world it's completely different trying to tackle arkward sets of switches which are set up all wrong to start with.

I will say though that I am supervised all the time and there is no chance of me screwing a job up so it affects someone else even though I still learn the tips and tricks.

I guess a kinder way to say it is, if someone is not even familiar enough with my car that is new and common as muck at their dealership they need some assistance to make sure customers aren't sent nasty quotes or even worse have unnecessary work done and charged for it

Just spoke to my girlfriends mom who is a lawyers secretary who seems to think that since vw have handled finance and since they have produced the finance plan for a car with a different specification to the one I have they haven't got a leg to stand on should I want to terminate the contract, she said that contract isn't worth the ink that's printed on it and I'm paying a higher price for a "more eco friendly" model which costs more than the normal model and because of that I'm probably paying a higher rate than the cars worth lol

I'm in two minds what to think as there is always different aspects to the case for and against but she is taking all my paperwork to work tomorrow so the lawyers there can look over it and see if I have a chance...

Bit bummed as I have to pay for two tires on my service tomorrow and an mot this month so I wish this could have all been sorted at a sooner date

The thing is, there's four trades you never trust people from:

Car dealers

Solicitors

Estate agents

Politicians

I'd be thinking hold off until someone else has been to court with it and had a verdict, rather than paying a solicitor to do it all from scratch.

Probably worth asking VWFS (not the dealer) about doing a hand back if it is PCP if you don't want it. New cars are a drain. I've done the numbers no end of times on getting something shiney for work and compared to buying a £1000 car then servicing it myself and fixing it when it goes wrong, new cars just don't make any sense. Even if I factor three days in a hire car in last month when the Ibiza was being Spanish, I'm still on a winner.

Yeah I doubt I will get a new/nearly new car from a dealer ever again..once you realise how much your spending and when youve had more trouble with a car that cost £8800 from vw in 6 months than I have had from a £400 Peugeot 106 in over a year It gets you thinking.

So far the lawyers came back with saying the emissions being incorrect is not a big enough reason to terminate a contract although I can terminate it anyway under normal circumstances (but of course I may owe money if in negative equity).

I have found out though I am entitled to compensation and I won't be paying a penny for the work by the lawyers because I'm doing a no win no fee..I have slater and Gordon calling tomorrow to find out more details regarding the car and I'm supposedly not even required to do interviews as it can all be done via post for documents and over the phone.

For returning the car I might just give yeti's advice then and call VW finance and see exactly what I can do...problem is I need my car valued by vw in Slough which I can't see them being very kind with although I think I do have some input. I could refer to other polo's with same mileage and year and spec to argue it to a certain extent

If anybody is interested VW sent me a letter and the 2.0 and 1.2 TDI Engines are just going to have software changes to correct. The 1.6 needs something extra...the word escapes me now but my guess is that they are changing a physical part as well

That will be what it was for the 1.6, I have lost the letter now though I just remember there was something extra lol

I'm surprised that the 2.0 doesnt require the most but apparently just ECU software changes the same as the 1.2, They say they will maintain the performance capabilities too. so I dont know exactly how they can do that unless the powerband is at a more economical rev range?

I thought that was wierd...I'm wondering whether the sale value may be affected which is the only thing that would make me go ahead and do it, After all I will have a courtesy car anyway. I just hope when the car is back it performs as well as before

would it improve the value to be one that wasnt done if it means it has a higher output than ofter the work?

do that, like with coins with missprints on them it may be a more desireable model especially as it comes with the cheat software in place
