someone will jump in anytime now and say their mate did theirs to show standard in a farm yard for £400 , and there will be people that pay £4-5000 for a show quality inside and out job thats perfect

So many factors to consider. Will you do any of the prep work yourself? Is it a full respray with the car stripped to a bare shell or not? Is the body in good condition or does it have rust/dents etc. that will need fixing first? Are you going for a factory colour or some one off special?

I'd say anywhere from £1k-5k depending on who you get to do it and the answers to those questions.

If be willing I do any prep work, body work is good, not much rust, it's just faded paint(red) and lots of stone chips that I want sorting, unless there is another solution?

Chips will need sanding a lot and that will likely lead to getting most of the paint of, but without seeing it it's hard to know. Additionally would you fill the dents yourself? The finish of the paint depends heavily on the prep, so you need to be confident you can do a decent job. Some paint shops will want to do prep themselves as their reputation is on the line. Best thing is to phone about and get quotes. I had everything from £1000-£2000 for just painting, me doing all the prep. Also I'd ask to see some work that the shop have done if possible.

Honest truth it depends on who you know etc you be surprised from getting quotes from 600 to 4/5k.. A propper job min 1500 upwards mates rates a grand. Or a quick blow over afew hundred. Best thing is go to a few bodyshops and get a few quotes and ask to see there work. Some bodyshops are fussy if you already prepped your car as they rather do the prep

yep most places wont want you doing prep

what you can do is offer to take the car there with all the handles , lights , trims etc stripped off already that would save on labour
