185/50 are like hens teeth unless you're prepared to buy yokos. 175/50 are around £50 a corner and I think I've seen 195/50 for around the same price. Not cheap I'm afraid. Have a look around at some new small cars running 14s and see what their sizes are, you could probably use something like they do and they'd be cheap.

Today I've been working on some more body work

My rear left quater panel was in horrible condition with a large dent, chipped and poorly repaired paint and two drill holes in it (the previous owner seemed to have no problems drilling holes in the car!)

I started by getting the dent out with a heat gun and GoPro mount which worked a treat

Yeah I've never been too sure about that whole scene, my aim is to get it nearer stock condition before I do anything else

Also I just won a bid on a Sony mex bt2500 head unit, does anyone have any suggestions on how/where to install front speakers without ruining interiors?

Today my head unit and speakers arrived!

I removed the old rear speakers but these surely aren't stock are they?

Also I've decided that I love the original chrome trims that some mk2s were blessed with but due to original ones being difficult to find and expensive I did the next best thing

not keen on the chrome , i think they just had silver paint on the grilles?

I used silver pin stripe and i love it

I love the chrome strips on the grille, obviously paint may be a better option for the future

I don't think that centre cap has come out as well as it could have, but i think you're onto something if you don't wanna pay the £100 i got when i sold a set of stainless ones. Firstly i'd sand the edges of the VW smooth and rounded, then fill the sections with silicone and wipe around it with a finger. The aim being to replicate the shallow, rounded recesses of the stainless ones. Then, using a hair dryer or heat gun, you should be able to apply the film so that there are no creases or bubbles.

Mine were particularly shiny as they'd been stored in a loft since new, along with the wheels, but most have lost their gloss a bit and the plastic finish should give a very similar effect..

I was just mucking about with that one really, if I was to do them all I probably would do something similar to what you just suggested. Those stainless steel ones you had is exactly the look I'm going for, with those steels they look mint!

Quick question, if I was to replace my front left wing (because mine is pretty dented) by removing the welding and bolts, would I need to get the new one welded again or would the bolts be enough to securely keep it there? What have other people done? Any info is useful

It's not welded. It can be stubborn to remove only because of the seam sealer (the bolts behind the door shut area are usually covered in it, so you have to tap the socket fully onto the heads with a hammer once it's aligned).

Really? Mine seems to be welded at the windscreen end of it, are there any instruction on how to remove it anywhere?

Today I've been doing some fairly sizeable jobs that I guess I've been putting off,

I began by finishing off my rear quarter panel to get it shiny

First I wet sanded it to get the clear coat smooth

Then polished and waxed it

After that I painted my air filter cover in the body colour

Priming

Sanding

Base

Clear

Now I really need to spray my rocker cover

Finally and most importantly I began prepping and paintingmy bonnet

Then polishing and waxing gave me this

All in all I couldn't be happier with everything today, the car is actually fairly presentable now

Normally I would say the body coloured airboxes look crap but yours being a dark navy colour anyway it actually looks quite nice
