Rear brake caliper springs

Featured Replies

I got told my mot garage that I have no springs on my calipers. I have a Lupo with a disc conversion. My guess is that its from a polo gti. What caliper springs are these? Part number or link please.

The handbrake works fine.. He said the springs are missing that push the arms back up.

So I pull the handbrake, it will brake... I release the handbrake and they'll stick on slightly because there are no springs to push the brakes back off.

I think it's these?

He said they could stick on and I'd need to push the arms off by hand with the car in gear so it doesn't roll..

if the handbrake goes off fine then its fine , its the garage being thick , lots of vw calipers have the spring hidden inside so nothing to see , yours sounds like maybe the calipers are getting a bit tired i doubt anyone has taken the springs off

Na it's not the garage. I know what they mean. When the cars off the ground the wheels don't spin 100% freely because the pads aren't being pushed off when the handbrakes released.

I haven't had a look at the yet but I would imagine it's these that are missing.

The springs weren't fitted from the mk3 Golf onwards as there are internal springs, but VW do sell them for retro fitting.

Right ok, I'm not sure what mine is but I need to have a look to see if those will fit.

The early iron rear calipers have a habit of sticking so maybe this could be your problem. These do however have a spring fitted. Do you know the type of calipers? There should be a number mounded onto them

I've got mk4 Golf calipers on my Polo and they work fine without the spring on the outside but the mounting points are there. Maybe as said your calipers are just getting a bit old and tired.
