I have a number of questions for anyone that may like to answer as I am working on some spare front struts:

1) Has anyone made their own sub frame and can it be successful, using square tubing?

2) Will any sub frame work with the polybush camber adjusting bolts?

3) Is there an ideal top mount for the front struts?

4) Which are the best quality front wheel bearings?

5) I have been recommended to use Koni shock absorbers all round. Are the G40 ones to go for?

6) Is anyone making larger diameter driveshafts at the moment?

7) What is the best alloy steel to be making driveshafts from?

8) Are there good quality and stronger CV joints on the market?

If you're gonna convert to a subframe then you have the option of using different front struts/hubs and arms. This can have many benefits. Later hubs will take later driveshafts so you have your thick driveshafts and bigger wheel bearings. Plus the ability to take bigger brakes - all in standard factory parts. 6n/6n2/Lupo stuff is all the same but for sporty models having the bigger brakes (256's) and this is the way to go in my opinion - as the driveshafts are the same length, leaving your front track correct. They'll also fit the gearbox.

You can use whatever arms you like really, if attaching them to the subframe. Renaults like the Clio and Megane have 'A' shape lower wishbones, some japanese stuff is adjustable, it really depends on what you're looking for.

The design from an engineering point of view is a bit of a tin of worms in a forum, i think. If you were using the original suspension and then adding a subframe just to stiffen the chassis then it could be made of polystyrene for all it matters.

When you make a structure to do a job then it has to be up to the job. This will be for someone 'competent and able' to determine..
