I am refurbing some spare Mk2 struts and was supplied with the wrong size bearings because there was more than one listing for a Mk2 at the bearing supplier prompting me to think that there are diifferent struts sizes out there. Are there stronger struts out there with heavier duty bearings or are there just different bearing sizes ? I was wondering if G40's have uprated struts.

I believe the later mk2 and all the mk2f Polos had beafier struts. Going by your 'Drives' your 1989 should have the later struts.

The G40 ones are just the same. Just the shock was different but I would suspect most have been changed for aftermarket inserts by now.

Thanks for the info. Perhaps I have earlier struts with smaller bearings?
