I seem to be having an dementia moment, I cant remember or find where I need to grease my steering rack, its been off the road for 6 years and sounds really dry?

Any help would be appreciated as I could do with doing this on Friday, while the whole car is in the air :)

Had one in a box so had a look.

If you remove the 2 x 11mm bolts, the tensioner cap will come off, then a spring, and a flat disc, then the 2 x wedge pieces.

Then you will see the top of the toothed bar bit, that's the only place I can see that you could put grease, probably need to stick some in and go lock to lock, until it's nice and smooth.

With it off the car, if the steering arm mount is slightly twisted it gets really notchy.

Loosening the 10mm bolt a bit made it a lot easier to move (by hand) not sure how much that will affect steering once fitted though.

No worries cheer dude, I'll have a look at this, I was hoping it would be going through the large 'rubber' on the right.

If you can save the metal clip, that looks like the easier option.

Yeah I can get to that alot easier, maybe replace with a jubilee clip?

That cover/bolt/spring etc you removed, can you alter the preload on the spring with the bolt in the centre of the plate?

Yeh there's a pin in the centre that threads in or out, probably needs to be tight enough to hold the toothed rack bar thing from wobbling, was a fair bit of movement with it removed.
