Bagged '94 Coupe

Featured Replies

Sooo, having owned my coupe for 3 years now, thought it might be worth sharing. It was my 1st car and it was in good shape for £350. But i was 17 so insurance for the standard 1.3 was £2200 so mods were few and far between.

How it looked when i bought it -

Working as an apprentice i had very little money to work with and i went through 'a phase' 😉. I stickerbombed the front wing over some light accident damage, put a bonnet bra on and lowered it on shocks and springs over some exip 14" x 6j alloys. I look back now and cringe but it made me happy at the time.

The stickerbomb, bonnet bra and yellow headlights were ripped off after UD14 and then i planned the next phase.

I bought and sold a lot of wheels including banded steels and porsche teledials but eventually found some wheels i liked and made an impulse buy - some Renault Alpine Gta turbines. 6 x 15 up front and 8.5 x 15 at the rear.

Didnt have a clue how i'd make them fit and after trialling them, realised the Polo needed more lows. A lot more lows.

So i looked at coilovers but the speedbumps into my estate are horrendous, unlike any others I've seen and i ripped my exhaust off several times when it was lowered 60/40 so just did a bit of window shopping on the TA Technix website. The window shopping led to an £800 impulse purchase of some air struts 😂 They were sent from Germany and lost midway but eventually arrived and plotted. This was march this year. Then in may, i went to visit some friends at sheffield hallam uni and popped into Airtechnik on a whim to enquire about Airlift V2 management. I left half an hour later with a wallet £1200 lighter having gone for dual compressors and a decent sized tank.

It wasnt till August till the guys at Novaks Kustom Industries installed it, as i didnt have the time nor the place to do it. To say i was happy was an understatement. I'll let the pics fo the talking...

And how it stands today. As you'll have been able to see, the bodywork has seen better days but as i type, the polo is at tge bodyshop getting treated to a fresh lick of paint.

So i pick the car up wednesday then its a case of more tidying up to do.

Over the winter I'm smoothing the tailgate, fitting the larger csr spoiler and getting the rest of the car painted in spring. I also need tk get it a bit lower, i'll be happy when the bumper touches the floor ;) and getting the bumpers smoothed, hopefully to be ready for UD16.

Future plans include a g40 engine in a smoothed bay, custom splits (the larts hoarding has already begun but I'm keeping the specs a secret), porsche tombstone seats and a full interior retrim involving rear seats removed and alcantara door cards / headliner / dash etc. So hopefully i'll be pretty much there for the Polo Social :)

If you want to see more pics of the build, there's loads on my instagram @rich_athorne

So I've finally had the Polo painted. For the first time in my 3 years of ownership, the car is all one colour. Had both sides done and it looks amazing but now the bonnet and tailgate are slightly off so it'll be getting a new coat on those too in the near future.. hopefully in time for UD16 :)

Nice Polo, maybe I like more rims with no hubcap.

But where do you live streets have no holes at all? :)

what are the roads like in wakey? i'm tryna move house at the minute (live in leeds) and my main criteria is a clear street and flat entry driveway... missus isn't impressed. The rent is cheaper over that way but if you're saying the bumps are in-humane i may have to recalculate haha.
