2 insurance policies

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

My Mum has an insurance policy that she wishes to cancel because she is now insured with another company. However, it is cheaper to let said insurance policy run out than to cancel it. Does anyone know whether this is legal or not? I would assume so, assuming she doesn't claim twice if she is unlucky enough to have a bump.

Cheers for any help.

Why not start the new one from the point the old one finishes?

Apparently 2 policies are illegal.

The problem was that i lent my mum the car for a year, and i want to drive it over the summer. Her original insurance policy wanted crazy money to add me for the 3 months that i am home. We have now cancelled it as it turned out to be cheaper to cancel than to let it run.

Having 2 policies running at the same time is not legal.

Having multiple cars and people on 1 policy is legal.

Having 1 suspended policy and 1 active policy is legal as far as I know.. someone may have to correct me there.

Also there is a fairly new rule about car ownership, for example should I wish I cant be the policy holder on a policy on my mums car even though she is a direct relative, she would have to sell it to me for nothing to transfer the ownership to me before I could insure. I found this out after being the named driver repeatedly on said car for 2 years intermittantly... still didnt get fined or anything though - although aparrently all the insurance docs are void.

Slap on the wrist for liverpool victoria ;)
