I've heard that the mk3 gti golf 280mm brakes fit 6n's, but I can't find how they fit... Anyone got some knowledge on this?

I've a set of 280mm calipers and carriers I took off my early mk3 8v and have them on my polo 16v hubs. It all bolts up as it's the same fit (or very similar) as the g60 set up. The only thing is you'd need to run a g60 disc as it's 4 stud and not 5 like the mk3 gti. Or drill the mk3 discs to suit

what size wheels are you running

You need 15s to clear that size

i'm doing a rear brake conversion on the 6n with polo gti calipers. i run 14 inch wheels. will measure what caliper size they are.

I have done it also, I have fitted an entirely new brake system front to back.

I had the 8v hubs so swapped to 16v hubs this is a must because you physically can't bolt the caliperss on. NOTE lupo hubs are different

For the calipers I got corrado g60 calipers - as above the golf ones are no doubt the same. I also know for a fact that passats also use the 280mm discs, they are not common but are a lot easier to find then the golfs. They are 100% exactly the same as the corrado ones. I am sure I have a spare one if you need it?

You will need the golf hoses, these have a threaded finger type Union whereas the polo (8v and 16v) have a banjo type. Very cheap to source. IMHO you don't need braided hoses unless you are doing some serious track stuff.

The golf pipes will bolt directly onto the polo brake lines, no need to change anything.

As for discs, I could only find them listed for the corrado g60. I searched around for ages trying to find them cheaper but in the end I went with good old ECP. They had to order them in but I got the pagid ones which in my opinion are great for under £50. They only listed pagid for these. On the box they only listed that they fit seat cars, not sure which though. They fit perfectly and don't foul anything.

As for pads I originally went with EBC green stuff, but after using them on another car I voted against them. I now have pagid pads. Again I went with ECP. These where listed for the corrado but are the same number for many vag cars.

I have read you can use the polo 16v calipers and only change the carriers. I cannot comment on this as I have only used the corrado ones but from the looks of it they appear the same.

Wheels, you need at least 15" I have a few sets on 15" wheels not all fit and they foul on the edge of the callipers. Not the end of the world, you can always grind the outer surface of the calipers smooth or at least just where they are touching the rim, OR just fit a bigger wheel. I am running 16" wheels and there is plenty of space now. You can also use spacers but I haven't tried this.

For he rear discs, just get everything off a polo. Straight forward swap if you get everything. If your planning on rebuilding the calipers, beware. They are a difficult size to get kits for, they have a 36mm piston and the only place that sells them is BIGGRED and last time i checked they where quite expensive. I found a seller on eBay that had them but he is in Europe somewhere, still way cheaper. These calipers a real prone to leaking so I would really recommend rebuilding them. I ended up using a calipers off the mk4 golf, it's basicly the same but has a 38mm piston and is a lot easier to rebuild. I would also highly recommend fitting new flexi brake pipes between the body and rear beam as again these are prone to breaking. The hard lines are rubber hose don't need to be replaced unless they are in a bad shape. If you can't get these then you can always make a hard line and find a short hose to go between the calipers and brake lone. Way cheaper then getting new ones.
