just got some coilovers and wondered how much I could build the fronts up off the car, for example like brakes so it makes it a simpler job when fitting themost and also is it worth upgrading them while they're off?

Obviously top mounts, bearings and hubs are a given that have to be fitted before you install them.

Yes you could install the discs, pads and calipers too but I wouldn't. They add a fair bit of weight to the assembly so might make it a bit more difficult to locate into place. Especially if you're doing the work by yourself.

As for upgrading you can't go wrong with a set of G40 brakes. All you need is the calipers, your original carriers will work fine. Then new discs and pads are only £50 from eBay for Mintex items which I've found work very well for the price.

Or you could go for the Vauxhall brake conversion. I found it quite an easy conversion so far. I still don't know how easy it is to connect up the brake hose and the shield at the back needs fettling to get it to fit.

g40 being vw2 calipers which are pretty cheap and common , dont be paying over the top for "g40" parts as they were fitted to poverty model golfs and other vag cars
