If someone is actually selling sh*t then I'd also be in there telling them they're deluded. That annoys me as much as people telling you something halfway rare or worth looking at is worth nothing. I saw someone local trying to sell a 6n2 gti for £2.5k the other day......

The only redeeming feature of my e46 unfortunately is the gizmos. It's relatively well equipped for a car that came out of the turn of the century. Aren't many cars with a built in sat nav from that era. Being hindered mostly by the auto box too I think. Just want someone to take it now.

I live on the outskirts of a town centre. The road I live on is essentially the first road outside of town not to have parking restrictions. You know, for the residents to park there. So what really grind my gears here is the fact that during the day when the shops are open, there is nowhere to park because every ahole who doesn't want to pay for the plenty of town car parks decides they're going to take up resident spaces on the outskirts.

I'm not sure if I'm out of line in being annoyed there, I know council car parks can be expensive etc but when I have to park 10 minutes away from my own home it annoys the hell out of me. At least when the Golf is done and I'm back to one car I can park in the garage again.

yeah and complain to the council and they put double yellows up your street too ....just keep pushing the problem about making it someoneelses problem rather than provide adequate parking at reasonble prices

I'm glad I'm not alone here. Council car parks don't exactly cost too much to maintain so I don't see a problem in lowering the costs to use them. Although even if it was 20p for an hour I'm sure people would still park on the outskirts.

Extra frustrating today because it means I have to either go and get the car later this evening or get up an extra 10 minutes early for my 4am shift tomorrow. Sleep is everything at that time.

Can relate Matt, though its not as bad by me, its just that if people come to visit they have to walk bloody miles as other people on the estate just park randomly, it was ok when just next door parked their two cars on the raised kerb between our houses but then over the road started doing it on the opposite side then two opposite houses the other way have started parking on the kerb too and no bugger can get through!

My girlfriend used to get really annoyed at this when she lived with her mum. On the street they lived in everyone had a parking spot either in the form of a driveway or just space outside on the street for one car..except one house. In this one house lived a quite a big girl who was the stereotypical "full time mummy". She used to park on the opposite side of the road to her house but bang on level with her front door. Doing this meant she actually took up 2 spaces usually occupied by the residents on that side, one of them being my girlfriend. This had an effect on the rest of the street and come 5pm, no one could park outside their own house and the last on the street had to park in a parking area around the corner.

I had some guy pop up on the Facebook page and tell me I'd be lucky to get £400 for it because it's an auto and you can supposedly get a clean 330ci for £1000 now. A quick search on eBay and the owners club page for sale posts shows most 330ci's for around £2/2.5k and a couple of breaking or spares 330's for £1k. But this guy was absolutely adamant my car is worth £400, despite everyone else on the thread mocking his opinion.

It's not necessary and potentially puts people off your car because someone's being openly negative about it.

As it stands I've got a guy coming to view with £1k in his hand tomorrow.

Your e46 is worth min £1000 for a quick sale or more if you break it and sell all the gen m3 bits, engine box leathers etc.

Essentially yeah, but he was stupid to try considering both A) I knew it was worth more and B) Even if I didn't people had already been saying around 1k to me.

Just let me down big time though when someone came to view and the drive round the block resulted in a strong oil/smokey smell and a fair bit of smoke out the back. Don't think it sitting for 2-3 weeks has done it any good.

Tempted to find somewhere to leave it and break it now.

ohhhh. That doesn't sound good. Try check if its anything minor to repair. If not just strip it naked and sell it in bits, It might take while to sell everything but atleast you get your money kinda back

Sorry to hear that Matt, Hope you get it sold soon, hopefully you don't have to break it.

I know what the problem is (or should be) but was hoping I wouldn't have to fix it. It's nothing serious, just needs a new valve cover gasket. More effort than I wanted to go to sell a car.

Don't wanna break it simply because I've got too many cars to 'sort' and don't want to have to be pulling this one apart. Plus it's too good to scrap.

My fault for getting in too deep with too many cars. Still got a mk1 cabby doing nothing in the unit that needs selling.

Idiots. My local breakers are like that. Minimum charge is a fiver per item so I don't bother with small stuff. I picked up an spi unit and for an oily old P.O.S he says £70. I just laughed in his face and walked out. Even the high prices on ebay are nowhere near that. Most I see people sell em on forums for is about £30 and yet I thought breakers were meant to be good place for a bargain.

My local breakers has usually been pretty reasonable when I buy stupid amounts of stuff from them, but I s slowly creeping up :/ they tried selling me a CEH and an 8p box together for 350!!

There are 2 breakers yards in Aberdeen that I've been to before. The first is one where you can go in and take the parts off yourself, usually cheap as chips. I've walked out with brand new looking suspension for £30 and bags of random crap for £10. It is great, and they clearly make money or they wouldn't have lasted so long.

The second is more like a shop, you ask for what you want over a counter and they go and get it for you. I remember once asking for a driveshaft for a 6n, They said £50 plus VAT. I told them I could buy a new one for £55 delivered off the internet. They just said that's the price, there is no haggling with them at all.

Some of the prices people breaking the likes of Polos want for parts is a bit silly, 99% of the time you can find new parts on eBay for around the same price if you know where to look.

With me, I like to undercut eBay if I can, with this 6n2 GTI I'm breaking I'll look at what guys on eBay are selling parts for and usually sell mine for half, means I'll get shot of everything quicker and in the short term make more money. I'd rather break a car in 2 weeks and make £500 rather than holding on to parts over 2 months or so and slowly take in £1000 as you'll never really see it.

Can't haggle with my local either. I hate one of the fellas that works there. He's deluded and completely thick! Then another dude who also drives the forklift to get the cars down gives me reasonable prices if he's on the till.

It's also a self serve one. The best kind I think. Like shopping in ikea. Shout the forklift man " can you get that polo down up there" and then dig for parts lol

Rimar's in Grimsby have got to be the worst one I've dealt with.

Exactly the same happened to me but with the model car, I said have you any mk2 facelift polo's. "Yeah we have a couple" so I was like really??? Definitley mk2f...between 91-94 yeah?

"Yes definitley" got there and he's had a couple 6n's that was about 40 minutes drive and my diesel wasted.

I think the high eBay prices are just abusing peoples laziness or whatever.... people not necessarily knowing about cars or just being lazy...ah I need one of those, eBay's it, car being broken, must be cheap its second hand...buy it now, job done.

You see stuff listed at STUPID prices for months though, and I often wonder do these places make any money?

That said I have brought/bought, I have literally just forgotten how to use english... from a breaker on eBay before and was very reasonable and quick delivery

Some of thr prices are aimed at garages who are passing the charge to the customer so dont care

'New improved' work systems that make life harder!

My work over the past year has been implementing a new computer system, trying to come away from using various Microsoft Office programs and have everything on one system. But so far it is a load of bollocks.

Basically offshore send in a spreadsheet and we used to just copy and paste that into a pretty elaborate Excel sheet in order to sort it into the information we and everyone else needs. 5 minute job, perfect, move on.

Now with this new system we have to hand type everything in to get the same end result, which when you're dealing with offshore supply vessel with 100+ items of cargo onboard, takes some time! Obviously this has a knock on effect with my other work too.

That sounds like the upgrade we "need" to do for the latest forum software, the old system works OK but the new improved version doesn't allow you to do the simple tasks the old system does!!

Getting car insurance is getting worse!

My blue coupe is ready for it's MOT so spent the last hour trying to get it insured. I currently have 4 insurance policies running, 2 with Lancaster for the GT and breadvan and 2 with Hastings for the M3 and 6n2.

Both the breadvan and M3 and currently off the road so I attempted to swap the blue coupe onto one of them. Tried Lancaster first with the breadvan, but they couldn't insure me as the value of the car is too low. Minimum value is £1000 and there is no way a mk2f 1.3 CL is worth that. So onto Hastings to switch it over from the M3. Get through answer all the questions...underwriter comes back saying they won't insure me because the car is lowered. So they will insure me on a 340bhp M3 worth over 10 times what the Polo is worth, but they won't insure me on a 55bhp Polo worth £500 because it is lowered! Even the boy on the phone said he couldn't get his head round it.

Looks like it is insurance policy number 5 for me then...
