Some people's opinion of the police. For example I am a "member" on a pretty large car group based around Birmingham because I went to a meet once, every single day is someone being pulled for somet

Since this is in the club house I'm going to try and keep my rants off the topic of cars. Lots of things grind my gears though, I'm quite a grumpy old man at the ripe old age of 28. Facebook - Face

  • Driving with front fogs on when it's not foggy!! I live and work a bit out in the sticks so there are very very few street lights so are blinding!

Clearly, I should have just kept the old leaky shocks and broken springs on...

Clearly someones being sarcastic here

indicate! I'm not a psychic!

I've hit the stage where I think I am. As a wise man once said to me "just imagine everyone on the road is a total idiot, out to kill you, and expect them to do the stupidest thing imaginable. It's amazing how often you'll be right"

My work mates dont get this approach and are shocked/unprepared for the clear act of stupidity that is about to occur.

One complained to our office that I used the horn too often...when i got called in my reply was "ok, ill stop using it but expect me to report a lot of missing cab fire extinguishers, in particular any vehicle I've driven during rush hour"

Yep, I did a count one week, my average is about 4 uses of the horn a day. And that wasn't even a busy week.

I used my horn once and I felt bad for using it and apologised to the car owned later, it was a learner inches away from backing up into me

People who don't understand simple road markings etc.

Was en route to work and came to a red light, a traffic light controlled crossroad. I start to slow down and stop, and the guy in the lane next to my right runs the red, but then weirdly, he stops just before the lights on the opposite side of the junction (blocking the junction). When they went green, he set off.

Don't get me wrong, I fully understand and tolerate someone messing up in an unfamiliar area (in a safe manner of course), but not noticing a stop line and then blocking the junction? WTF?

I've been Judased big time on my apprenticship a month before I pass out. My old NVQ assessor told me all my work was perfect...I know it is too because I am pedantic with my work always and supported everything with evidence etc

Then he leaves the job and a network rail instructor I had in year 1 is now marking my work. The same instructor I happened to say had a face like an ironing board and told him he couldn't do his job for shit. ( he was a dick to me...I didn't say those things just unprovoked) This has backfired massively and despite me ticking all the boxes and meeting the criteria it's sort of also down to his discretion. So he has decided I need to add a shit load of stuff to all my work now to be a knob.

To top this the job I was promised has been taken down as HR are making cuts and trying to save money by training other people to do part of that job in their current position. The misses definitely won't move anywhere else out of London so I'm going to need to get a senior technical officer job, basically the most boring job in the world on a role clarity contract earning less money in a position with more responsibility.

That's why I'm not working on my car. I've stayed up day and night Trying to get my work done.

with regards to horn useage I don't think I ever use mine, apart from tight single track lanes where you just cannot see to alert other people who maybe coming the opposite way, otherwise it's pretty easy the predict what idiots are going to do so I generally leave space expecting to be cut up or whatever... No point being worked up IMO, obviously in a situation like above someone about to reverse into you fair enough. But I can't stand those people who manage to get on the horn before they've even thought about braking or trying to avoid a situation, last thing on my mind is horn, I just want to avoid the potential accident due to someone else's stupidity haha.

I'm of the same opinion as Nick, I would rather do all I can to avoid an accident myself rather than smash on the horn and hope that helps. With all these dash cam videos these days you see so many people effectively driving into an accident then about a second before impact the horn goes on. The funniest ones are when the horn and brakes go on, the accident is barely avoided and the other car continues on down the road. But the dash cam car is in the middle of the roundabout, horn still blasting and now stationary.

There's a link between the loudness of your horn and the effect it has. My Polos' have proven pretty useless, but a nice long blast from my Nissan or the Porsche usually makes the Audi trying to cut in front of me think twice about it. Never underestimate the persuasiveness of a loud horn :p

I'm the divvy that brakes to a stop or avoids the accident then does a horn afterwards. My car does a proper little toot as well :(

Mine doesn't get used in retaliation, it's generally because I can see someone is heading my way and isn't looking what they're doing.

Classic case in point yesterday was a bloke who I could tell was going to pull out of a road end without looking right. I was just about stopped by the time he had chance to divert his attention from his passenger (she was massive) and look what he was doing.

I've averaged about 30,000 miles a year since 2005. Mindreading would be an excuse for how I can tell what they're going to do, but in reality, they've got fuck all going on up there.

Sellers on eBay, couriers and postage costs.

I buy a lot of stuff on eBay, probably an average of about 5-10 items a month. 99% of the time I never have issues, I order parts and they turn up at my door a couple days later. But there is the very odd occasion where after buying something (usually something that suggests free delivery) I get an email from the seller saying their courier won't deliver to my address 'for free' as I am in a "hard to reach area".

Now for a start no courier ships anything for free, they wouldn't make any money otherwise so free shipping is just a con for a start, the price is built into the price of the item. Also I may live in the North East of Scotland but I'm not out in the deepest darkest depths of nowhere. Far from it, I live in a decent sized village just a half hour drive away from one of the biggest cities in Scotland, Aberdeen. The drive there is all on A roads and is no different or more difficult than driving between 2 places anywhere else in the country. In fact the boundaries that they use to show these "hard to reach areas" often start just a few miles down the road from my house.

Yet the postage charge for this is incredible! The latest seller wanted £14 extra, that worked out as a quarter of the original cost of the item. £14 just because a van has to travel 9 miles into a "hard to reach area" which is on an A road and the depot for the van will have been in Aberdeen. Yet the couriers that they use deliver to my house and the rest of my street all the time and I have never paid any extra for postage.

I can't work out if it is just certain sellers making up these boundaries and high postage costs so they can offer free postage to everywhere else, or if the contract they have with their couriers are just on the cheaper end of the scale. What I do know is it is one hell of a waste of my time!

Why do people always seem to tailgate you when you're driving an old car.. Even if you're going slightly above the speed limit. So annoying because it never happens when I drive my new car [emoji35]

People blatantly lying about MOT or MOT history.

Since the advent of this wonderful site https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ I pretty much MOT check every car I'm interested in that I see for sale. Doing so has opened my eyes to how many people are willing to lie about their cars MOT. A most recent example was a Polo on one of the Facebook pages (again a shocking advert) but it clearly stated 1 years MOT. Upon checking on the site turns out it has 4 months MOT. So nowhere near a year, at all!
There was also an advert recently where the MOT wasn't mentioned, but they guy said he was still driving it. I checked and the MOT had run out 2 months previously. I told the guy and he said it was a genuine mistake but he was confident it would pass and he would put a ticket on it before he sells it. A few days later I'm reminded of the advert and check it again, to find it had failed on a pretty long list of things looking to be like a lot of electrical issues and/or blown bulbs along with shot wheel bearings. So did he know it was a dog and just tried to pawn it off on someone a little less savvy?

I'm also seeing a lot of people saying "passed with no advisories" but when you check there is a whole host of advisories for things like corrosion, worn brakes, worn tyres etc.

Another rant from me...

Do people selling cars these days know what O.N.O. means?

I see lots of adverts on Facebook and pretty much every car has the price marked as "£xxxx ONO" and I swear people just put the ONO part in just because they see others doing it.

Two reasons I have for thinking this, the first is people trolling the adverts saying "You'll never get £xxxx for that", well no, that is why there is an ONO following the price....

The second is when you see a cheap car at £500ono and they get a comment "£450 cash right now" to which they decline saying they need £500....

I know the art of haggling has been all but lost when buying used cars from dealers but it seems to me like it is slowly dying from private sales too :-(

If I'm buying these days, I just go "I'm not going to haggle with you. I'll give you this much for it, I'm going for a walk, you have a think about it, but I'm not going any higher"

This comes up occasionally and seen it twice today within the space of a couple hours on Facebook...

People who buy old cars and immediately put up a post asking "what is it worth?"

People who accelerate slowly onto dual carriageways and motorways. Driving a mk2 1.0 breadvan I like to be as close to the speed limit as possible when it comes to merging.
