What grinds your gears

Featured Replies

Yeah there is that. I've had a couple near misses when it's been the other drivers wrong doing...once a transit flying down a one way in the wrong direction almost hit me. On all of them I've thought afterwards...shit I should have let him hit me. Screw him over but I always follow instinct to avoid the accident lol

Atleast these polo's are fairly cheap to fix ourselves!

Some people's opinion of the police. For example I am a "member" on a pretty large car group based around Birmingham because I went to a meet once, every single day is someone being pulled for somet

Since this is in the club house I'm going to try and keep my rants off the topic of cars. Lots of things grind my gears though, I'm quite a grumpy old man at the ripe old age of 28. Facebook - Face

  • Driving with front fogs on when it's not foggy!! I live and work a bit out in the sticks so there are very very few street lights so are blinding!

The funniest one is where you're driving the transit and someone tries to barge you out of the way. Tell you what, I'll just stop here, take my feet off the pedals and phone you an ambulance, because I'm sat above everything, I can pretty much guarantee I'll be fine. You on the other hand are making a beeline for 2.5 litres of cast iron.

If it's anything like my last one, whilst not totally indestructible, it had been written off twice already.

Estate agents!!

^ This

Now, contrary to what many will say, I'm actually a really nice bloke who will help anyone out, but I'm not known for standing for it if someone's giving me shit.

The place I'm renting has got a fairly bad damp problem on one wall, to me, it looks like the roofs leaking in one corner. I've been relaxed and professional in how I've dealt with them over it and got nowhere, so, knowing what I do about tenancy law (quite a lot), I had the council in for a look and they phoned the agent and turned the screw a bit.

The agent came round this morning with a couple of builders for a look, and her attitude was shit. The first sentence out of her mouth had one piece of unprofessional language in. The first sentence out of mine involved saying good morning to everyone, the second was reminding her where the door is and telling her to use it or sort her attitude out. The third was a direct quote from the local council's assessment of the property, and the fourth was me having a chat to the builders, and welcoming them as they were stood on the stairs trying to work out where to look.

Funnily enough, she was really, really nice to me after that.

Going through what she might have said now in my head lol, take it she swore while talking on entry? No manners these people ever...we recently had a good experience at an estate agents when the misses parents moved house but I rented a while back and they're attitude was disgusting. Especially when they had to come out to assess damage. The shower leaked round our bath and they attempted fixing it about 3 times until the 4th they fixed it properly. They acted like I was wasting there time. Not like I'm ecstatic about calling them over every week is it.

Returned from Portsmouth this week to work again and I'm still an apprentice technically despite passing out because I haven't bothered getting a job role yet (right one hasn't come up near me and I get back paid anyway to the date I graduated).

That's a good thing in a way but I get treat like a dick and everyone piles work on me. I come in on time every night and normally 10-15 minutes early to sort out. The rest of the lads come in an hour late and give me all their paperwork to do. They rely on me so much to do the technical side of their job that in the 2 weeks I was gone they did no paper work at all. At my desk I had a pile a couple inches thick of paperwork for S+C inspections, side wear, platform gauging and everything. On the top was a post it note. "John can you put all this in the system please".

F*****g cheers.

Thing is I go out every night doing the same job they do and most of the time I'm doing the physical bit while they have a pen and paper dawdling about. Then I do everyone's paperwork as well as my own. No wonder I have no time to work on the car because I'm taking my work home and staying late then sleeping all day at home!

Drivers who use no common sense. Driving in my estate the other night. Turned into a road with parked cars on my side so needed to drive about 200 yards on the wrong side till the road was free again. Car in the distance coming opposite way see's me pulling out and can see I have nowhere to go unless she lets me through. So what does she do, boots it down towards me to block me coming through so I'd have to reverse 200 yards back down the road and into the road I'd just turned out of so she could get past in her 'king of the road' Range Rover. No sir! She wouldn't budge so I just turned my engine and lights off and sat there while she gave me some abuse until she had enough and backed up to let me through, idiot. It's funny how people think they can bully you on the road because your car is smaller and older than theirs. How sad..

Had that situation happen a few times and I normally have reversed. It infuriates me that, you done the right thing by sitting and standing your ground, she may think twice before she does it again to someone else hopefully

see alot of awe full driving /bullying with the range rover lot

If it had been in the day or there were other cars around I probably would have backed up but as it was about 11pm and no one else around I thought F it lol. They are pretty tbh, I think it's the type of people that drive them. I mean I've done the Land Rover off-road experience and it was great fun but it amazes me the amount of people that buy vehicles like that seemingly to just run the kids to school and do the shopping. Such a waste of a vehicle like that. I think that's where the problem lies lol

Don't worry about it, let it build up, get a new role, then just leave it all on your desk when you go ;)

Double double post post

People who hide registration numbers on cars they are selling! Why? I've seen a few examples lately of this and to me it just says you have something to hide. You drive about all day every day with your registration number perfectly visible to everyone else as required by law. But when it comes to selling a car it suddenly becomes this big secret.

Yeah I completely agree. If I was to see a gt or g40 for sale I would do a numberplate check to see that it's genuine or if it's a conversion. Then that also tells me if other parts on the car specific to that model are present rather than just the engine. Not only that but I would want to pay less and be cautious to judge someone else's work on the engine swap if it wasn't genuine.

Surely it does nothing security wise to hide the plates either lol

can check the past mot fails and advisorys too ...so any mention of rust and its alarm bells

Yeah, I've never got that either.

Learning from you guys, I would be straight on the MOT and car details checker when buying a car...

Also, I've got a mate that has a business account with a car parts company, and he actually gets more details about a car on a licence plate check. Engine codes etc.

While we're on the subject of what people do when selling cars, pretty much all of these:

Just watched that 5 minutes ago

The 'Easy fix' part really does my head in and I've already ranted about that on here http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=344666&p=2686144

What is annoying lately is people putting up pictures that have been modified by that app that turns everything all 'swirly', A: it makes any picture look gash and B: it does a fantastic job of hiding dents, scratches and rust, so to me just shouts dodgy advert.

Again,

People who drive with fogs on when its not foggy or its raining

People who don't have lights on when its dark or rainy, I spent 5 miles behind someone yesterday on the motorway in the dark, they had no lights on so I just sat flashing at them for absolutely ages, still no lights, still totally oblivious. It worries may how little attention people pay to the situation they're in and their surroundings, like you're driving a massive lump of metal which could easily kill several people, sort your life out fucktards

I don't get how they can do it though either because you can't see what speed your doing either because your dash lights won't come on!!

A lot of modern cars, Fords and Vauxhalls in particular light up the dash lights no matter what. So in a built up area at night I can see how you can forget.

I also think part of the problem is modern cars are so easy to drive that the act of driving is way down on the list of priorities when people are behind the wheel, they are too worried about their hair, make-up and updating their Facebook status.....and before anyone thinks I'm being sexist, I'm including guys in the statement too.

In the focus at work the dash fully illuminates when the lights are off, horrible feature. I've drove down the road without them on a couple times, I do notice after a minute though lol

DLR's that block the indicator flash

When drivers are halfway in to a lane before they indicate.

That's not got a patch on yesterday's "special". Turning right on a roundabout, by means of going all the way round in the outside lane with their left indicator on.

Well, at least I know my ABS works now. There was nothing about except for them and I was intending to do a quick straightline over the roundabout, until I realised they weren't really turning left

Rules of advanced motoring reminder to myself to prove I was a factor - Always assume everyone is about to do the stupidest thing imaginable.

Strong believer in that theory, I have went to merge on a roundabout when someone was indicating left to come off well before the junction I was at and also moving into the outside lane, only for her to go round past two more exits! Had to hit the brakes then, bum also went tight in case the man behind drove into me

I've trained myself in this theory too. I do not trust people's left indicators. Especially when turning out of a side road.

Some scary times have been had in those situations...
