I was driving home from university the other day, down the m5 and the rain was torrential. After going up a slight incline I felt water occasionally dripping onto my foot that was on the accelerator pedal. This happened over an hour after starting the journey and has never happened before when I have driven in the rain. As far as I know the car has absolutely no rust anywhere, so what else could it be? I was wondering if it could of ran down the accelerator cable or something.

Any help would be great!

I have also had a long term leak that only happens in heavy rain. I have not got holes in the battery tray. (It has been moved to the boot) Also the scuttle has been covered completely so very little water gets in there. There is no water getting through the doors because there is no soaking of the carpet on the side of the door sill. It only happens on the drivers side. I think the only way to sort out this mystery is to remove the seats and carpet and spray water on to the car to find out where the water is coming from. Please let me know how you get on.

I'm having the same issue but only the drivers seat belt gets wet. Nothing else in the car is even slightly moist.

I'm guessing the rear window seal but it looks to be in good shape.

Non-sunroof model so its not the sunroof lol

might need the tank off to see it well...worst bit on a polo , proper mud trap and makes them rot

Make sure your drain holes at each end of the scuttle are clear of leaves and debris. Check your battery tray isn't rotten.

To be fair though, I have had a scuttle tray fill up and overflow down the heater in very, very heavy rain, but the car was parked up under an overflowing gutter.

Clear out the centre drain too, the one with the rubber boot thing. I guarantee it's rammed.

Lay under the car to clean my central drain below the middle of the scuttle. Got an eye full of mud which was a real pain. Rammed full of crap.

Just get your hand in from above and pull it out then clean out crap and refit ..

I wrote a post about leaks on Polos ages ago, they leak all over the place TBH. Mines as watertight as I can make it but it's still not perfect.

As others have said it's probably coming in through a hole in the battery tray on yours. Just judging by where the water is dripping.

If not, have you had a new screen recently? The worst leak I ever had was an incorrectly fitted windscreen seal with a tonne of sealant inside.
