6n2 ESP

Featured Replies

Hey, did the 6n2 come with ESP in any of its versions?

I couldn't find any info about that, so I was hoping you could answer me.

If it did, it means it's possible to fit the system isn't it?

and what about Cruise Control?

i've seen it was installed on a Lupo GTI (diesel), which is pretty much the same car as the 6n2 atleast for the electrics.

The stake was taken from a VW Transporter

ESP is shown on the wiring diagrams, it's just a switch to put a supply to a pin on the ABS control unit, you'd also need to fit the accelerometers (longitudinal & lateral) the steering angle sensor and looking at the parts list you'd need to change the ABS control unit to the correct one.

As far as I can see there wasn't an option for a cruise control, certainly nothing in the wiring diagrams, it was an option on the 9N1 onwards.

ok thanks

All 6N2 GTI for the german market came with esp. Thats for sure.

My polomate rene bought a new 6n2 GTI in 2001 and he kept it till 2008 when he bought the cup edition gti polo.

For other 6N2 it was an extra option i guess, there i am not that sure.
I don't have a pricelist here now.

Always when we were on any polo or vw shows, we looked through the windows and we were searching for the esp switch in the dashboard. We have only seen that switch on the german 6N2 GTIs.

Cruise Control was never an option in the 6N1/6N2 Polo, whether with cabled or wired gaspedal.

Back in 1999 i installed an aftermarket cruisecontrol (a machanic version from vdo) in my 6N1 and i used the T4 Transporter cruisecontrol lever. i believe i was the first one with a cruise control in a Polo 6N.

And in the early years of this millennium on german poloforums they tried to convert the cruise control in 6N2 Polos with electrical gaspedal.

Thats not a lot of work, it is just comparing the current flow diagrams from the polo with its different motors with similar engines from the golf mk4.

So for example the gti engine AVY is very very similar to the golf mk4 engine APF.

With the time there were some DIY's on the net, my polofriend rene came over with a DIY back in 2002 and we just had to mount the lever from the T4 Transporter with cruisecontrol and connect a couple of wires from the lever to the ECU and to ignition when i remember right.

Normaly thats done easy and quick. But as mentioned above, renes polo had esp, that means he had a steeringanglesensor... which had to get adjusted after demounting the steeringwheel for changing the lever.........

So with the right engine you can have a fully working cruisecontrol (with accelerating and decelerating) with original vw control element.

Cruisecontrol in Renes german 6N2 GTI with ESP and AVY Engine

Cruisecontrol in Andres german 6N2 2000 "Highline" without ESP and AMF (diesel) Engine

cheers
