Hi I've just bought a 2001 polo 6n2

After purchasing I have noticed that the front passenger door won't open from the inside, unless it has been opened previously from outside after being locked with the central locking.

Anyone got any ideas because this is really confusing me?

Looking forward to hearing sine suggestions...

That's odd! So you can't open it no matter what until you open from outside? Does it then open and close constantly as in multiple times in a row?

Thought maybe the cable for inside door handle being stretched but if it opens fine once done once I'd imagine it's ok

Has it had any kind of aftermarket remote central locking fitted or actuators that might be fitted a bit badly?

Seems to be fine once opened from the outside. Discovered today the key also spins in the passenger door and you can't get in with the key from outside, although the windows both came down when I tried. Just nipped out in it and now i have no power to the drivers door. Windows, Central Locking, Electric mirrors and speakers don't work. I think the loom must be knackered but still doesn't explain the weird passenger door.

No remote locking that I know of but I haven't had the door cards off yet.

I'll try tomorrow to see how many times it will open from the inside... I've ordered a lock repair kit and filled in a quote form for a drivers door loom at Stevens vw spares. I need to get the drivers door sorted first really, looking at the loom between the door and the a frame I can see many old repairs and broken wires. Would I be able to remove the loom and still use the car if I try to repair it?

I've just arrived in the 21St century after only ever driving mk2 golf's and mk2f polos. Not sure I like the 21St century problems that come with it. Think I'd choose heaters that only work on stage 3 over no windows!

Sounds like 2 issues.

1 the lock barrels connecting rod has snapped and is not allowing it turn properly meaning it stays locked. A quick fix is to take the handle out and pull the broken part out of the lock mechanism inside the door. You can then just fit the handle back if the lock barrel doesn't fall out.if it does either stick some tape over it until the repair kit turns up, or remove the barrel and make sure the little pins don't fall out. Maybe some tap around it would hold them together.

2 the drivers door loom is badly repaired.

You can either remove it and make a good repair this will cost a few quid for some solder and heat shrink OR source a good look, but bear in mind this is a VERY common failing point so the replacement may also need repair.

Where are you located buddy? I have a great breakers literally next door and has a good few 6n2 in and he wouldn't take more then £5 for it plus you might need other bits.

Hi dixy, thanks for the reply. My lock rebuild kit has arrived today so I will be looking at that over the next week or so. I'm considering paying an auto electrician to repair the loom for me as it has been badly repaired in the past and I don't want to make it worse. I'm going to get a few quotes over the next few days and see how expensive it will be. I did try breaker link to find the loom but got no replies and I'm also concerned that I would have a similar problem. Hopefully when these two problems are fixed the weird passenger door thing will be sorted too. Only yesterday a light is now flickering on the dash which I can only assume means the boot is open. And it's definitely not. I've never owned a car with any of these electrics. Never even had electric windows or central locking so it's all new to me!
