Hi

Could someone please tell me if a Polo (2010) jack will be suitable for using with 2015 Touran that comes without one.

I am changing car next few days and if Jack is ok I will keep from Polo. Naughty I Know but VW are cheapskates not suppling one!

The jacks that are supplied with cars are for emergencies only. I wouldn't jack up a Polo with one if I could help it let alone a much heavier Touran.

Leave the jack in the Polo and buy a trolley jack. They aren't expensive for the little 2T ones and are much safer at the roadside than the 'widow maker'.

One tip for roadside jacking (or any jacking, for that matter)

Lay your spare wheel on the ground next to the jack - If the worst happens, the spare wheel rather than you will become trapped!

Once you have got the existing wheel off, you swap it for the spare on the ground before fitting the spare.

I always carry a couple of wooden wedges - especially useful if you are jacking the rear of the car, but I always use them anyway. - These are made by cutting diagonally, a piece of (say) 50 x 50 mm timber of about 150 mm in length.

They're not called 'widow-makers' for nothing. I've had a few of them break on me. They're for emergencies only.

That said, i've found little difference between them. I've snapped Rover 600 and Ibiza jacks using them on my MK2, but i've never had a MK2 jack fail me. Avoid the ones with Nylon thresd blocks, they snap. I even bent an Audi A8 one, though it was aluminium and didn't actually fail otherwise.
