I was in need of a car asap and cheap and didn't care what. And found a 91 polo mk2f gt in red(well sun died white). The owner said it has been sat for 3years. 200BUCKS later I was the owner. With new brake pads and discs she went straight through her mot..(I know I was shocked too) anyway I'm a ford guy always have been you know cortinas,mk1 grannys list goes on. So when a guy at a petrol station said you got a rare car there worth a few quid. Is he right and what kind as I can't find one for sale anywhere.

Yes and no really. It is a rare car in a sense that there are less than 500 taxed examples on the roads....but that number will be higher if you include the various conversions and stuff out there.

Valuable? Certainly worth more than you have into it. But depending on the overall general condition don't expect to make a fortune on it.

Like I say I wouldn't expect to make a fortune on it, but i dare say you could double your money on it assuming you only have the cost of the brakes and MOT into it.

I'll never forget seeing a pile of rust on eBay that used to be a mk1 Escort, with logbook etc, go for over £2k!! Silly money to be made on mk1 Escorts!

It's a 3000E mk1 capri. No idea on the 'to do list' because it's still sat in the same place, I've had to sell a couple of cars to clear up some space. Hopefully gonna dig it out next weekend. It's been sat there since 1989 and it's in a very bad way so there's a real change of it splitting in too

Tbh it's probably gonna end up being reshelled, on first inspection it looked like this shell is too far gone for it to be worth saving, but I'll see once we get it back to the unit. I only gave £500 for it and it's worth a lot more than that in parts so there's no way I'll lose on it

That is fab, amazes me how people just leave cars to rot, I work for the council and we find cars all the time. Several years ago we pulled an old mg metro out of a garage that had been there for 10+ years, the owner said that he did not want it so we scrapped it, it was a nightmare having to have it dragged out of the garage.

I know of an old wolseley in a garage that we couldn't find the owner for and its stopped in the garage since.

From what I've heard, it's far far worse to leave cars stood on grass/bare earth than a paved surface.

The rising damp from the earth is not good. Hope it doesn't fall apart when you move it.
