Hi all, can anyone tell me what's involved in replacing the inner track rod? Can this be done on ramps without special tools? Is it accessible without removing power steering rack/ dropping sub frame ect? Car is a 2000 6n2 1.0. Damage is on passenger side wishbone & bent inner track rod. Thanks in advance, Ed.

The dealer manual says replacement of the track rods is only possible with the rack removed and in a bench vice ! but other than access I can't see why you couldn't do it instu ??

Thanks for that Nige, I guess the only way to know if it can be done in situ is to get it up on ramps & see how much clearance there is when it's on left full lock, unless someone else on here knows for definite if it possible or not. Don't know if would be any easier with wishbone removed either, as this needs replacing as well. Thanks again for your help, its much appreciated, Ed.

The inner track rod is accessible from being on the ramp, tool wise you only need a spanner and mull grips

Yeah I've done it myself. I used to work in a garage for 5 months but got made redundant( scaffolder now ). I'd probably think it's going to be solid to get off so if you can get a blow torch to heat it up to make it easier to loosen up. Don't go and burn yourself though lol

I would tend to put it on axle stands rather than ramps, with the road wheels out of the way, life will be much easier.

You will need a ball joint separator to get the ball-pins out of the track arms. - If you have to buy one, get the type that tightens onto the end of the ball-pin, rather than the (cheaper) 'cow's-foot' type that you have to hit with a hammer, they work, but you can't always get to hit them, plus they damage the rubber grease retainer.
