Hi guys just picked up my mk2f today. Its my first car so I'm new to all this, you will have to excuse and dumb comments or questions (appologies) ... to the point, my boot is jammed open, i cant lock it at all. It shuts but wont lock. Obviously this is a security issue. Can anyone help?

Get some WD40 sprayed into the keyhole of the lock(best if the can has a tube on the nozzle) and keep working the key in and out of the lock and eventually it should start to free off. Quite common for these to seize up if not used often.

Try WD40 first. If this doesn't work the only other solution is to remove the lock, dismantle it, free it up and put it back together.

Much easier said than done though.

Locksmiths may sell lock lube which is graphite dust. Put some on the key especially if it's blade is horizontal and work it into the lock when you have got it freed up.The graphite dust does not attract more dirt. I found it's worth stripping the lock down and getting it as clean as possible. Unfortunately the lock is in a place that is vunerable to dirt and water.

Yep, but you have to be persistant, it will work, eventually. Soak it first, leave it for an hour or so, then give it another soaking and work the key in and out of the lock. Eventually you'll be able to turn the key. Ideally as others have said, it's best to strip the lock down and clean it out/lube it properly.

Had no boot latch on my breadvan when i got her. Managed to get one from a breakers for a couple of quid. Took it apart and filed down the metal pins inside until they fit my key. Wouldn't say it was difficult to do as it was one of the first jobs i ever did myself on it. Just fiddly and properly borin. Hope that helps.

This is the better stuff, if you can't get it from a locksmith, Maplins have it or there's plenty on ebay. Give it good blast into the lock and work it with the key, if that doesn't work, blast it again and leave it an hour.
