Not at all no, the parcel shelf is a welded in peice of metal with a trimmed peice of board clipped to it.

It's all steel panelwork, the seats don't fold. I was on the lookout for one but went with the coupe as that came up first. Had an acceptable loon been available at that time, my plan was to do what Stevie Davidson did and remove the relevant panelwork to replace it with the folding rear seats, welding-in appropriate strengthening to the shelf and frame (mainly because this is the only way to achieve the provision for a useable bed in the back of a pre-'95 Polo).
