Time has come for an upgrade on a battery for my 91-mk2f-1.3-cl. A higher cranking rate and amp would be what I am looking for , have just a basic cd radio so no big drains.. have used bosch before but am willing to give other brands ago.. So what have you used and results people please..

Current battery that came with car is a Halfords hb063 with 360amps can not find cold crank start on it ..I use the car at weekends and a few times in the week it is not a daily runner ..

I currently use these two linked below. The Yuasa is a good battery and has pretty good cranking power, although I have found that left sitting disconnected or connect it drains pretty quickly. But being from Halfords they will exchange it for free if it does become faulty.

The Lion from ECP is less powerful but at half the price it is still a good battery and I find it holds charge better when left sitting for a long time.

Why are you looking to upgrade beyond the HD battery listed for your car? Larger alternator? - if so, from what?

It shouldn't run down in a week, unless the battery's shagged or there's something else draining current (headunit, immob, alarm, knocked the parking light on getting out).

Don't go bigger than 063/083, the battery tray is too tight for anything bigger.

I'd avoid the Lion ones unless they're much cheaper than anything else. I put one on the Ibiza in the summer, and it's showing signs of weakness on cold mornings, but to be fair, it is doing a lot more cranking a diesel over and starting a load of electronic crap up, compared what the battery has to do on a mk2.

If you park near mains supply why not spend the money on a maintenance/conditioning top-up charger like a CTEK XS 0.8. 10watt or a Ring SmartCharge+.

I've got a Bosch S3 that recovered from neglect as a spare thanks to the Ctek charger.

I'm using a Duracell 063 from eurocarparts alleged 4 year 44Ah and 450A cold cranking. It's what they had in stock in Cambridge and was half Halfords price for something with 3 year guarantee. Cranks really well every other weekend - but that is with new alternator brushes, fat cabling and new starter motor.

Yuasu have a good reputation. I think they took over the famous Unipart Samson factory.

I think it is passed it but previous owner said it was a new battery but not 100% on that and I have had the car for a year now. I may try my luck and take it to Halfords and see if it can be checked by then see if its faulty etc..
