While driving home this evening, i noticed that my headlights where way higher than I've ever had or set before. I was going down a very bumpy road and i noticed it after that. If the leveler on the rear axle has broken would it cause this to happen , or would the aims drop? As its a Gti it has the xenon headlights.

Maybe the bulbs themselves have moved ??

The "Self adjusters" don't have that much movement in them, it's possible the headlight reflector/projector has jumped out of the ball joint on the end of the adjuster motors so causing your aim problem, you need VCDS/Vagcom to properly adjust the beam setting, it puts a "neutral axle deflection" signal into the unit, then you adjust as normal headlights

I'm pretty sure the the bulbs or headlights haven't come apart as both aims are spot on ie match both headlights, just much higher than normal.

In that case I would start by having a look at the connecting linkage from the axle to the sensor, if it thinks the back end is high it will try to compensate by raising the light beams but as I said they don't have a great range of adjustment

No, normally don't go wrong, but the linkage isn't the strongest bit of metal
