Front shocks for mk2f

Featured Replies

I have bought some new front shock inserts from eBay and they arrived yesterday but in the box there is only 1 bag of fittings. The seller did state this but I saw in the pics the bag had 2 metal caps.

When I had a look there are 2 caps but 1 is smaller so I'm guessing there are 2 sizes.

My question is, can the caps be re used?

If not can these be bought separately ? I can't see any listed on eBay so probably main dealer ?

Thanks

I've re-used mine for a few different brands of inserts and have been ok. With TA inserts you'll need a 2p coin in the bottom to space it out so it doesn't rattle, but the Koni's in now don't need it.

That's the part.

The set I've got has one bag with two of these caps but one is smaller and a new top nut. Do you need a smaller one inside then the bigger one on top?

Some inserts use a different thread for the castle nut. (like Koni)

Have never seen different sized caps, and there's only one per side.

Though I think some Bilstein's come with caps with a much larger centre hole.

Have you got a photo of them?

My AP suspension came with different caps. (If by caps you mean what holds the shock insert in the strut)

Stupid really selling it with those kits, only thing I can think of is earlier or later polo's had a chunkier strut maybe? :/

Also if the suspension you bought from eBay is AP I would do the 2p trick that ross mentioned too as I had a tiny knock before I put a 2p in and now it's fixed :)

Is the 2p thing really needed ? As I am thinking of buying a AP kit this summer for my bready . The yellow kit I brought off here a few years ago for my coupe was fine without the 2p shoved down the strut..

I guess it could depend on your individual struts, my ta technix knocked very bad without and when I fitted my ap suspension I thought it didn't at first but there was a very small knock on one side, after the 2p it stopped

The ap stuff definitley fits better! But I would say better safe than sorry and use the 2p method, the worst that can happen is you can't tighten the cap as far down by maybe one thread

I took them out there packet and the smaller one isn't threaded. I had a look at the tiny print on the instructions and it seems the smaller one is a spacer so perhaps this is to solve the play problem.

I contacted the seller and it was in fact a mistake and the box was factory sealed so was a factory mistake and they will send out a replacement if possible or issue a refund. I did tell them a refund is of little use as I would struggle to source another spacer and cap etc so would end up budging it which I want to avoid.

Thanks for the help guys.
