I've recently bought a 6N2 1.4 16v.
I was told by the former owner that had been sat for about 18 months after she bought another car so bought as a replacement/project for my lupo.

Cars fairly tidy with less than 80k on the clock and I've paid £80 for what looks to be a solid car - no rust , a few scrapes and dents but nothing thats put me off as plan is to rat it(I know , dont hate me)

Initially discovered the battery is shot. Not a massive issue and not too bothered if its been sat that long.
Now discovered the engine wont turn over.
I've changed the starter motor to find the original one was ceased solid.

Tried turning the car over on jump leads and still nothing.

I can hear the starter engage and its trying to turn over but thats as far as it goes.
Now I'm thinking possibly something else is locked up or ceased?

Any suggestions would be welcome as if I cant get it going in the next week or so I think I'll be breaking it.

First welcome to the forum.

I'd start by removing all the sparkplugs and then try turning it over by the large nut on the aux belt crankshaft pulley, that will prove if there is anything serious with the engine, if that is OK and ONLY if that's OK with the plugs still out try it on the starter motor.

By removing the plugs it removes the compression from the engine, so it should turn over easily if there is nothing wrong with the engine, and if the cambelt has slipped or broken it will limit any further internal damage that could be caused if you only try the starter motor or worse try and bump start it

had the spark plugs out and tried turning it on the fly wheel.

No joy.
However when I took the plugs out first cylinder seems to have a hell of a lot of oil in it.
The spark plug hole in the top of the engine was oil free but plugs covered in oil.

Now my mechanical skills are pretty limited but I'm sure that the cylinder shouldn't have a load of oil in it?

It's possibly due to someones bad aim when filling/topping up the oil. So even with the plugs out it won't turn over? if that's the case next thing to check is the cambelt hasn't snapped, remove the plastic guard and see if the belt is OK
