Polo owner, if so which?: Mk7 1.9 TDI Sport 130 - it was originally owned by my mother, but when she was diagnosed with Alzheimers a few years ago her driving licence was cancelled. I took over ownership of the car because she didn't really want to be parted from it and that way she could still see it regularly and be driven in it. The car holds some memories for her because her and her late husband (he died in 2011) took the car on holiday to Austria (where my mother was born) and to Ireland (where she grew up). I took her to Vienna in it for New Year (2015) to see the New Year concert by the Vienna Philharmonic - my mother's grandfather played in the orchestra.

Hobbies/interests: Motorcycles - I currently own a Ducati Streetfighter 848. Music - I play bass in three bands.

Occupation: I am a sound engineer. I own and run a recording and rehearsal studios in Chichester.

How did you hear about us?: I found the site from an internet search. I have lurked here for a while finding out bits of useful info about my car. I have finally decided to join and make myself known to everyone.

Thanks for the welcome John. I don't think that I have any photos of the car, but I am sure that my mum has. If I get the opportunity I'll scan them and post them. The car is unmodified so it is still exactly as it was when it was bought, so it looks the same now as it does in photos from its earlier years.

This is the only photo of my car I could find. It was taken in Ireland in 2008. Apologies for the poor quality. I had to take a photo of a photo with my phone.

As far as I know as well as Ireland the car has been to Austria in winter twice and in the summer once. It has also been to Slovenia and France.

Is the mileage really high then?

The mileage is low. Only 56,000. It was about 22,000 when I got it at Christmas 2012. Other than going on holiday to Austria, Solvenia and Ireland with the car my parents only used it to go to the shops once a week. In its first three years (Sep 2005-08) it did 13,500 miles. After that about 3,000 a year until my stepdad became ill in 2010. He died in 2011 and my mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's towards the end of 2012 and had her driving licence revoked.

The car has suffered from being kept in a draught free, but unheated garage when my parents had it. This has meant that the car has suffered from staying damp when put in the garage wet. The first mechanic who saw it when I took ownership of it asked me if the car had been in a flood!!!! The alloys have suffered badly and the front wheel arches are starting to rust, which I believe is common for VWs from that period (my friend's 2005 Passat is doing the same). Is that covered by VWs 12 year body protection warranty?

I hope to get that all sorted this year and return it to as close to as new condition as possible. I think that considering that there are not many of the Mk7 TDI Sport 130 around it would be nice to keep it as close to the original look as possible. Especially as I have all the paperwork for the car starting with the 2005 brochures and order form and including every receipt for every service and repair that has been done to the car.
