mk2 breadvan rot box restore project

Featured Replies

I've brought myself an absolute she'd of a breadvan. My aim is to do something different with it. It's currently in a right state. Not sure how to upload pics on my tablet but some will follow. So far I've found holes on the inner sill the a frame a around the passenger door, driver side rear wheel arch, around the fuel filler cap, the rear valance, the front valance, the drivers side behind the head light. It's a mission but one I'll enjoy

  • dammmm.... my guess is someone may have replaced the wing in the past so took off all the sealer/paint etc and then didn't put any back on.

I know never seen anyone complain about it before tbh. I'm dreading removing the other wing now

I don't think that is the case all the inner bolts had sealant on. I'm not sure what caused it really. Repairing it and then getting the wing to sit right again I think may be a bastard job too

With all the Polos I've taken apart I've never seen any of them rust there. Very odd. But hopefully you get her sorted and the rest of the project goes well.

I should be able to fix it I'm hoping to get a section cut off of someone's breaking shell

like everyone else I've never seen one go there and I've been professionally restoring Vw's for years. My only tip would be to clean it back slowly and carefully then only cut out what's needed and do it bit by bit so you can try and follow the original shapes of the car were possible that way your wings going back won't be a total nightmare lol

love the colour by the way these earlier models looked great in that colour when the paint was fresh.

Good luck! I'm interested to see how you get on with this :)

Today it was actually sunny so I decided to make a start on a rain tray delete and smoothing the engine bay. Not completed yet ideally need a sand blaster to remove all the rust. But I think it's looking better already.73450b4916c33ee94e8d0552d93c81de.jpge4b815d9ee9a9c3216ad2d2b1c09d564.jpg
