I recently purchased a kit which comes with an Aux and USB socket and a Quadlock plug on the other end. This is a straight 'dumb' cable without any added electronics.

I have an RCD 200 radio and am trying to enable the auxiliary input to plug in an iPod. I'm not sure if this radio can take the USB connector, but should take the straight Aux. I enabled the CD changer using VAG COM and now the if you press the CD button twice it displays 'No CD Changer' (before it did nothing).

Questions I have:-

1) Can I use a straight 'dumb' cable or do I require any electronics to trick the radio into thinking it has a CD Changer plugged in?

2) If I can use the straight cable, can somebody provide me with the correct pin-out to use?

3) If it requires electronics, can somebody provide me with a circuit diagram so I can add this to my cable?

4) Is it possible to interface the USB plug to this radio?

5) If I can't use the USB plug with the radio, I'd like to make it into a USB charging socket. Can I take a supply from anywhere in the car/radio to do this or do I need an additional 12v to 5v power converter?

I think I had the rcd200 in our 9n3. I remember having an aux in and I would have to press cd twice it would say something on the screen like TR--- or similar but play any sound put through it. I later added an iPad interface, this was made by blaupunkt and so is the rcd200 so just plugged in and worked great.

I seem to remember there was a bare wire on the aux in wire and this needed to be grounded I think, this automatically enabled the aux in (or cd changer?) feature. Not sure where the wire went or even what I connected it to, was a while ago and they say alcohol destroys your memory :)

Connects2 make all sorts of interfaces so I would recommend checking them out, you can always give them a call or email asking about it as that's what they do and know what they are talking about.

As for the sub charger, not sure on what's in that adaptor but if it has wires to power it then take that from the cigarette lighter as that's switched. If you want it live all the time then you would have to go into the back of the fuse box.

If it's doesn't have charging ability then there are standalone ones that can be mounted inside the glove box etc, have a search on eBay for 12v usb charger

I've read in other places about the ground wire and that may be what I'm missing to activate the aux input, but so far I haven't been able to find exactly were to connect it.

From what I can tell, it looks like it may be the same setup for the RCD 300 and 500 too.

The USB socket is just a straight cable and socket and I would need a 5v supply to use this as an additional charging socket, but if there's not one readily available I can rig up a 5v voltage regulator and mount it behind the dash. I was just querying on the off chance that someone could tell me where to get a switched 5v 2A supply to save some work.

It seems you need a converter even after enabling the CD changer in VCDS, so I've just purchased a Connects2 CTVVGX004 and will be installing it next weekend. As far as the USB goes, I was thinking of butchering a standard USB cigarette lighter charger and mounting inside dash, as I've got a few of those knocking around.

This thread has petered out. I wonder if Joe005 can tell us if he got his rcd200 aux input working with a dumb cable adapter thingy. 

 

My car came with a ipod nano adapter which I've never used, a second press of the CD button displays 'Ext Cd' but nothing else, I haven't got an ipod nano. I've made a dumb cable for my rcd200 but I might have to enable the cd-changer to get it working via the CD button. Pls advise. I don't really want to spend £30 on a special box unless I really have to, and don't want to use fm transmitter.
