6n throwout bearing help please!

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm 99% sure my throwout bearing / release bearing is knackered, terrible noise in neutral like someone shaking a bucket of spanners. Gearbox had leak which i fixed, oil is new and full. I want to replace bearing and some people suggest it is physically possible to do with gearbox in situe. However i have spent hours looking for a walkthru guide without success, any links or guides would be beyond appreciated!! Thanks in advance - mike

Hi steve, gearbox on was mentioned in threads i googled, honestly I'm that skint I'm clinging to the hope its something i can do myself otherwise its probably gonna write my car if i have to pay someone. Do u have any links i could read specifically on 6n's? Thanks

Not even the magician "Dynamo" could replace the release bearing without dropping the gearbox!!

Get the Haynes manual, it shows you with step by step pictures, you don't need any special tools.

When you replace the bearing it's also a sensible idea to replace the guide sleeve the bearing slides on, as these can become worn and cause a notchy feel on the clutch pedal and in extreme cases make a sound like a bag of spanners !! Part number 085 141 181
