Hoping someone can help.

Damaged the n/s headlight so bought a new one off ebay (not 'brand new') but its advised for 94 to 99 Polo and pictures of it look the same.

I took the old headlight out and replaced with the new one. All looked good until i went to connect the wiring/plug.

The headlights have the same serial code but previous one has 'L' on it and the new one we have has 'L2'.

So how can I get this to fit? Can something be done with the wiring/plug so it does plug in and work?

The lower picture is for the headlights with "Range" adjuster motors, if you have an adjuster knob next to the backlighting brightness adjuster you need the lower picture one, So which one is the replacement?

The top picture is the old/current one, bottom picture is the new one.

Does that mean only thing i can do is buy another headlight as per bottom picture as we have the adjuster?

Have a look at the other headlight and see what connector it has 7 or 4 pin, if it's 7 pin then it has the adjuster motor, and it means there should be the extra wires stowed somewhere near the other headlight plug, but then you'll need to find a 7 pin connector to replace the 4 pin one, if your wanting a quick fix? you could unglue the connectors from the backplates and swop them with the internal wiring to new unit, unless it's a problem with the wiring that's your reason for replacing it?

Just physical damage on the headlight was reason to replace. The black plug can be removed then? Just a bit of heat and it can be pryed away or?

From memory the connectors are just held on with some sealant, so hot air and a bit of cutting & prying they will come off :)

Thanks Nige, managed to do it based on your advice.

The old headlight had another connector behind the first one, so i had to cut it up to get the wiring out.

A few cuts later and we have a new headlight fitted and working.

Hahaha may as well have done.

Bits of the broken glass still on the headlight, was just a tiny bit of glass :(
