identifying which wire is earth or hot?

bought some aftermarket gplat fog lights for the 6n a while back. they come with 1 black wire and 1 white clear wire, which is earth and which is hot? Is black the hot (live wire)?

and earth is the clear white wire?

I would guess the other way round, hook them up to a 12v battery to find out ;)

If neither of them has a connection to the mounting points, check with a multimeter, it won't make any difference,

Aftermarket items don't always follow manufacturers wiring standards, I would hazard a guess that the White wire is the positive, have a look at the connections to the bulb, if the white wire goes to the centre pin/wire of the bulb then it's the positive
