Lola: project Knightrider (9N 1.4s 16v 5dr)

Featured Replies

I'm glad I've got this car now, I think it's quite nippy in comparison to others in its class, but my LOLA is fully stock right now as I save every penny I can, to invest in her before summer arrives.

I wasn't sure what to get now that my ban has been lifted & with a full year tax & insurance, I'm intending to make Lola shine as I ride through these Suffolk streets, where I live there is a healthy car scene, so evidently, I want to make my chariot stand out, so I can attend my gigs & events in style, while not look like a boy racer, but a mature enthusiast & let my VAG turn a few heads.

At this point, nothing has been done, other than a service & a full tank of fuel, as I'm also buying my missus the A3 she has been nagging me for, so I don't have to carry the kids in mine, because I'd just be kidding myself, given all the wear & tear they can provide, lol.

So this is my toy, my mobile man cave, on the day I took these pics we were just about to drive to Hunstanton beach, for this Easter holiday, so the car is full of stuff, but it's taken 140+ miles of driving, for her to grow on me, now I can't wait to get back home & get stuck in...my wishlist has grown but hopefully you'll like the finished article.

I hope you'll joined on my quest to transform my little Lola in time for summer.

My plan: 'Keep her simple!' -

I like the 1.4 16v motor, so other than a performance Filter & exhaust system(unless someone shouts Webber Carb Conversion!), I want her serviced & performing up to spec.

I'm focusing on perfecting the bodywork & paint, so she looks brand new.

I need to paint the calipers, fit a set of coilovers & a set of alloys, at this point I like the Montreal II.

I want a spotless clockpit & a better double din stereo to listen to my new material, while on the move.

She needs halogen bulbs & model badge removal, maybe a boot spoiler & tint the glass a little darker, plus one or two little personal touches to finish up.

Simple but effective, ultimately I want the new GTI but that's another story for another time!!!!

But for now, this is my LOLA 9N.

Brilliant, just sorted a nice set of Montreal's, from just down the road, for £115. So will collect them on Friday, then send them to the shop for new low profiles & a refirbby, happy days!!! :)

The reason I spoke about improving Lola cosmetically, is due to swear & tear she has a few scratches, scuffs & lost the sparkle in her eyes, due to the past owners being vanilla in regards to mods or driving ability, not that its a bad thing, but I'm not one of them, lol.

Here are a few of the cosmetic damages I will be sorting...

1st: These are her tired shoes, her wheels & cheap tires, are worn out & faded, like old primary school pumps, it's sad...

2nd: These scratches to her arches & on bumpers, are also around door/boot handles & down the sides of doors.

Too me those are just typical things found on most 5dr family used cars, so it's no big deal to rectify it.

3rd: I discovered these marks on my head lights, it's like limscale or dry spraypaint, I can't remove it with soap & water, not entirely sure if I can get it removed or if I should have to buy new units, does anyone know or experienced this on theirs???

Also on the passenger side rear door there is a scrape, which was visible on purchase, the previous owner had her parked on the road but found it this way one morning, so this will need to be remedied asap.

Yeah, thanks mate, I just found an autoglym set @http://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-cleaning/car-cleaning-kits/autoglym-headlight-restoration-complete-kit for £25, it's not bad...I will post the results, when I've got started on her.

I'd also like to restore the paint, as you can see(above) the body work has loads of surface scratches, nothing too drastic, but I'm wondering, if it is better to T-Cut n polish her or just send her to the shop for a fresh spray over, as I plan to get the plastics colour coded anyway, but I want the shinest black coat on her, not just something that will fade in the elements of British weather, does any one have suggestions???

Under my car are what seems like 'black protective sheets' covering the front/rear foot wells, from the sills to the transmission, on both driver & passenger sides, does anyone know what they are called & if I can replace them? As the have a few cracks in them...Here's a pic?

So I've ordered a set of JOM Coilovers & Angel Eyes(Black), then I want a set of refurbished Montreal 2 x 205/45 tyres(if you know anyone with a good set going send them my way?) & then get my Windows tinted...

I also want a better air filter & 3" performance backbox or a cherry bomb(are they legal?).

Then I'm going to spend plenty of time sorting the paint work & cleaning her thoroughly.

Any helpful advice is welcome...

:)

Got my wheels & about to send them of for refurbishment.

I've also grabbed a set of center caps & got my JOM Coilovers today...Happy Days!

Ok, there has been a slight delay, with progress. I have recently been away in peterborough doing that 5Day intensive driving course, did great & have my practical test, on Monday 25th. [emoji4]

Now as you can see, I've been shopping for bits.

I got my BBS Montreals, JOM Coilovers, Stubby beesting aerial, new centre caps (for BBS monte's), VW Air Caps, J&J Tinted Wind Deflectors.

Everything is sitting & awaiting my booking, to get my wheels & paintwork done. Then put it all together.

Had an issue with paypal, due to my high volume of purchases, so was delayed on purchasing my headlights & window tints. But its all good...

Btw, I also brought a 2010 Audi A3 for my missus, exactly the one she wanted when she passed her test.

So I'm pretty much 'The Man' at the moment.

Hiya,

I've not posted in a while as I'm setting up a business from home at the moment.

dcc00c5da68f7f956c644c209ce2c09d.jpg

So far I've had her hand washed/waxed, the paint tidied up a little, but just brought some treatments to patch her up & do some detailing work.

I've added my new wind deflectors...

68828abe0451649f1f26445f41aac9e5.jpg

Then fitted & balanced my 16" BBS Montreal 2's, not refirbed them yet, cos I couldnt wait, lol), with 'VW' Air valves, new 'VW' centre caps & new JVC 200w door speakers.

0066bfca2015806a1e68d9dc4c24c65e.jpg

I'm still having trouble with my Intake system, management lights on again... A few days after having my cat repaired & new exhaust fitted.

2a4eb0c09e4c838d28cdb89ad465d943.jpg

I will be getting that sorted, before I tint the glass, fit my stubby been sting, & install my new stereo.

The new Audi met us on a day out, with my Wife & here are our babies 😎

859c713c860cf3a61b8cabc71ae23444.jpg

But over all...I'm happy, I have a few bits left, but having earned my insurance issues, with a big chunk of my budget used to pay my fine & 6pts on a new licence?? 😵 I really won't complain...

It was worth it!!!

I got caught driving her to the garage, the week before I began my 5day intensive course.

Simple fact is because I didn't match the registered drivers information.

...No insurance & NO Licence??

Then I went on to pass my practical with 3 minors, so with my current progress I can't complain...

Other than a new gear gaiter & to get the window section(anyone know the name?) treated & painted up...she is in great form.

I'd just call it the window frame. Can't remember if it's texture paint or smooth on these, but so long as you mask the rest of the car up well, you should be able to DIY it. Got to admit, I didn't expect Montreals to work that well - looks good on them

Bit of a bummer about the points, I've been that close to a ban myself, just keep everything straight and spend the next couple of years driving like they're out to get you!

Took time out today to de-bagde the boot lid, think it looks better that way too.

Fitted my new white bulbs, cost me £80 quid, but worth it, even though I discovered the damage inside my drivers side head light & the misting on my passenger Side, has pissed me off, no end...

May not be visible to the naked eye in these pics but it's blatantly visible in person...anyone know what I can do to fix it???

I've tried the wet n dry paper approach & the buffing with lens cleaners etc.

Nothing....
