Worked on the O/S front wheelarch this weekend. Wire brushed and sanded the surface rust and painted the inners with blue smooth hammerite and then brushed on seam sealer in the obvious rust / rain traps and also prepared the inside of the front wings and brushed on seam sealer again to prevent rust / rain traps.

Next job is to drill indicator holes in the front wings and paint them in the body colour. Replace the discs and pads then bolt on the wings then on to the N/S

Just some advice try stay away from hammerite paint as its not that good. If you can use epoxy paint if funds allow . Keep up the good work ..

I have used epoxy 121 on my chassis on my 1970 beetle its good stuff and have good results with it , not cheap but well worth the extra for protecting metal..

Guess I'm stating the obvious there. I just need to learn to weld next

So today i put a second coat of paint on the breadvan after seam sealing potential rust trap areas so it should be a while before it needs looking at again.

O/S inner wing

Sills

Front panel

To do list:

N/S wing removal;

N/S inner wing assessment and refurb;

Remove grill and headlight and refurb panel;

Drill indicator holes in new wings;

Primer wings and possibly paint top coat

colour;

Refit wings with new aerial in N/S wing;

Paint front panel in top coat colour;

Refit front bumper;

Replace driver's door, following replacement being painted in top coat colour after removing the few minor dents that it has in it;

Refurb engine;

Refurb cooling system;

New exhaust and finally

New MOT

I will replace all brakes one front prior to fitting new wings and then refurb rear drums prior to MOT.

I have already stockpiled all of the replacement parts

If your using aerosol paint, I found out the hard way that it doesn't like to stick to hammerite. Not sure if primer will help but might be worth a test on something just incase.

Thanks for the tip, the second coat i have put on is not hammerite.

And the N/S front inner wing, again only surface rust and no welding required. I'm very happy with the condition of my car.

AND SO THE REBUILD STARTS.

Its been a while since i have done anything to my daughters breadvan but today i began the rebuild. Put the two front wings into primer.

Will hopefully put them back on over next fortnight, rebuild will slow at first as im recovering from my knee operation but we will get there in the end

O/S first - not a bad fit for a pattern part

Then the N/S - not a bad fit too but needs a bit of work as it stick out slightly proud of the A post but im just going to slacken off the bolts and push the wing in until its flush them tighten the bolts whilst the pressure is against the wings edge.

The time has come to consider selling the breadvan.

There are lots of new parts,

Service parts,

Brakes front and rear,

Spare drivers door

Bumper

Just havent had time to recommission it and now my daughter wants a newer car so i think i may have to sell up.

I have been given a price of £500 in my hand for the registration number so i may sell that and then either sell the car as it is with all of the parts for a new owner to either break or re-register and recommission as it really is a good car and i refuse to break it myself.

Im still in two minds, any thoughts or interest.

I havent put a price as im still undecided but was thinking of £300 all in - less the registration
