Hi all,

I just became the owner of a polo mk2f boulevard 1.0 and wanted to ask a more general question regards dashboards and MOT's I see that MOT now requires no warning lights etc but I wanted to ask a more general question regarding whats required for a dashboard itself.

Can I rip my entire dashboard out and leave the dials and still pass an MOT or are there some requirements about having parts of a dashboard?

(Why am I asking this? because I have an idea but don't want to proceed with it if it would invalidate the MOT)

Are you just wanting to remove the dashboard and leave the clocks attached to the bulkhead?

So long as everything is secure and the clocks still work there shouldn't be an issue apart from maybe the exposed wiring.

Yeah that was effectively what I was planning on doing, I would hide any exposed wires etc but ripping out the entire dash apart from clocks was what I was going for.

Can you replace the clocks or are there guidelines for that?

Is there a reason you want the dash out? It doesn't weight much so wouldn't be much of a weight saving.

What would you want to replace the clocks with?

Yes that's the one it was my partners who actually passed her driving test last October but shes just bought another car so its going to be mine in a week or so.

As far as not wanting a dash, well I wanted to make my own (which granted will probably look like "WTF HAS HE DONE?!") but I really do not care what other people think.

Well the clocks, I don't know I was just wondering if I could change them legally speaking I take it I would need clocks that have everything the originals did?

Legally you only need a speedo, it doesn't have to be the factory fitted one, if your pockets are deep enough you could fit a race LCD datalogger on another forum someone got away with a hard installed satnav system !!
