Basically I'm looking to get a full respray once I've prepped the car, does anyone know what it costs these days as it was 12years since it was sprayed and had to do a temp Matt black on half the car due to some work I did since it was stood & I know it's water based not oil based paint these days

honest opinion prices very. from a little as a grand for quick blow over to 2grand+ for a propper job ie windows out doors removed etc. best thing is get a few quotes from your local body shop and ask to see there work too .

edit: becareful if your prepping the body work as most paint guys can get funny with that and rather prep it them selves .

It's worth getting recommendations based on someone who's had their car painted a few years ago, to see how it's lasted. There are plenty of places who'll give a good finish, but if the prep is bad then it's often hiding a multitude of sins. Great for a feature-grabbing show car that'll get sold on after 12-18 months, but a headache if you plan on keeping the car longer than that.

I've seen some flaky bodyshop work up close from big name bodyshops, stuff which looks great when it's on show but doesn't stand up to even the slightest scrutiny when you're up close, and I've also some very good work from smaller places. You can't even gauge it based on price, unfortunately.

lucky i have an old guy local to me who is really good at painting cars and a decent price too. none of these scene tax prices . just an old skool guy that deals with old retro cars.

That's what you need. People who restore keepers. Unless you just want something quickly turned around which will change colour next year anyway. In which case take it anywhere haha!

If you are going to keep the car, avoid red colours, as these are more quickly affected by sunlight.

Basically I'm going to be looking at the full job, total restoration of the bodywork where some small rust spots have appeared and finish off the work I begun, so it will be a panel off affair and fully resprayed in the base colour (Honda pirate black) I had with the violet pearl flip.
