Could I take a new style head unit fro say a MK6 and put into my 6n2? Would it fit? Will the wiring loom be the same?

That will fit you will need a facia adapter but it won't be a plug n play, you'll need some extra wiring as that one uses canbus connections and your standard 6N2 radio doesn't

Thanks Nige. What kind of Facia adaptor and is there an adaptor harness i can get or is it a "get the multimeter out" job?

I'm not sure where you'll find the facia adapter but you'll need something as your dash cutout is designed for a square cornered double din unit and the one in your link has rounded corners, as to the wiring www.kufatec.co.uk might do an adapter loom ? if not it'll be cutting and splicing
