Hi

Currently have a 6N2 as a non start. have ignition lights but no crank. has a feed at the starter main supply but no feed at small black and red switch wire. unplug it and has 12V the moment you plug it in feed drops off hence the non start. any ideas ? imobilizer ??

currently without wiring diagrams !! anyone got a diagram for it ??

The thin Red/Black wire should only have a 12v supply on it when you go to start position, assuming you have a manual gearbox? if not then you have a starter inhibit relay and that will only supply the solenoid if the lever is in P or N

The immobiliser will not stop it from engaging the starter motor, it will allow it start but if the key isn't recognised it kills the engine after 2~3 seconds

This is the diagram for the 1.6 GTi but the starter is the same, just ignore the extra wire coming from the Re/Black starter wire with a 79 in the box, yours doesn't have that

i do have a manual box. has a 12v feed when in start position only as expected with plug disconnected and probe on plug. when re connected and back probed has no voltage when in start position? possible its dropping it down the starter solenoid windings? starter bench tested fine ? bit of an od one ...

any ideas greatley apreciated

There are two connectors between the starter motor & the ignition switch, a 5 pin one in the engine bay & a 10 pin on the bulkhead disconnects, so you might have a high resistance connection in one of theses or the ignition switch it self, it shows 12v with no load on it, but when a heavy current is required it cant deliver

I agree with what your saying but its just odd its ok until i connect it at the starter. then it drops from 12v to 0v a high ressistance lead would cause the amperage to drop i suppose, but surely the fact I'm getting nothing with it plugged in but 12v unplugged is s bit suspect . i shall have a look in the morning !
